Track Competes at Vandalia Butler Invitational
The track and field team is nearing the middle of their season and competing at invitationals against much larger schools. However, Milton-Union’s athletes, especially the distance runners, are consistently competing at the top of their events.
In the 4x800-meter relay, the girls team placed second out of 10 teams with a time of 10:34.66. The boys team also placed second in a time of 8:38.54, and they competed with 12 teams.
Kate Copp competed in the 100-meter hurdles, where she placed seventh out of 15 with a time of 18.02. She also ran the 300-meter hurdles, where she placed third overall in a time of 52.82 seconds. In another girls sprinting event, Audrina Strickland placed eleventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.69
On the boys side of sprints, the 4x200-meter and 4x100-meter relay teams both placed seventh. In the 400-meter dash, Charlie Lane placed ninth out of 28 in a time of 54.30 seconds.
Back on the distance side, in the boys 1600-meter run, Finn Hinkelman placed eighth out of 24 total runners in a time of 4:57.39. In the girls 800-meter run, Amelia Iddings placed ninth out of 26 runners in a time of 2:43.39, and in the boys race Grant Hinkelman placed eighth in a time of 2:08.81 and Carter Forrest placed fifteenth in a time of 2:16.70. There were 28 runners in the boys race.
The 3200-meter run was a standout race for two of Milton’s top distance runners: Aubree Bates and Colin Hinkelman. Bates ran her two-mile race in a time of 12:20.05, which placed her fourth overall. Hinkelman ran his race in a time of 9:53.79, which placed him second.
As for the field events, beginning with girls high jump, Copp tied four fourth place jumping 4 '6". In boys long jump, Dalton Day placed fourth after jumping a distance of 19 feet 2 3/4 inches. Sam Milnickel placed fourth in the pole vault after vaulting 14’ 3”.
Finally in girls discus, Aubrey Jones threw 92’ 3” which placed her third, Madilyn Keys placed sixth with a throw of 86’ 2” and Emerie Baisden placed eighth with a throw of 81’ 10”.
