Tipp City’s first full-service salon and spa celebrates with ribbon-cutting

With a nod to her hometown roots (pun intended) and a play on Tipp City's historical Canal Lock, there is a new full-service premier salon and spa for the first time in downtown Tipp City.

This is a perfect addition for the bridal party and the girl gang looking for an afternoon of pampering and fresh locks.

Owner of the new Canal Lock Salon, Holly Shepherd, spent her youth immersed in downtown Tipp and hanging out at her mother, Carol's, salon on Third Street.

Ending up in hair even surprised Holly. But as it turns out, it was in her DNA whether she knew it or not. After losing her dad at a young age, Holly thought, "What am I going to do?" She knew corporate cubicles were not her style, so she begrudgingly enrolled in beauty school. She said, "Right away, I loved it. I thought, ‘This is it.’ It was like I innately knew what to do just from hanging out in the salon growing up."

Fast forward, after 18 years as a stylist on Third Street, Holly knew she needed to grow. She could see the need for a full spa in downtown Tipp to complete its charm. She also felt stagnant in the small salon but finding that space in downtown Tipp would be challenging. Finally, she heard Broadway Hair was looking to sell, and Holly knew it was the right place and time. "I wanted to expand, rebrand, and refresh!" She said at her age, it was now or probably never.

Holly purchased the salon formerly known as Broadway, but kept most of the ladies. She actually purchased it in early February of 2026, but the ribbon cutting with the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce was delayed until April 28th. It took some time to refresh the previous workspace and add room for the new services. Holly wanted to remodel but did not want to close down. She was concerned it would hurt the ladies financially. So, hair by day and remodel by night. Holly was quick to point out how everyone chipped in and helped even on days off. Holly spent a good deal of the interview gushing about her stylists, therapists and techs in the salon. "We encourage each other," she said. "I feel so blessed to have the ladies I do. The talent I see every day amazes me."

The Canal Lock Salon offers all the latest- from lift and tint lashes, to on-trend nail art and private massage therapy rooms. It is so much more than hair. But there are all the services you would expect for that, too. "This is not an old school salon. Or rather, not your mother's salon," Holly laughed. " But we still have all of the traditional things like perms, only with all the latest trends, too." While Holly may have quipped a joke about "not your mother's salon," she was quick to praise and thank her mother and mentor, Carol Shepherd. "My mom is my hero and my idol," she said. There is a very close and loving relationship between them. Carol said, "I am absolutely proud of my sweet daughter. She is such a hard worker. I know she will put her heart and soul into this business. She loves people, she loves what she does, and loves Tipp City!"

Patsy Bryant, a hairdresser who has been in that location for over 12 years, said, "With a new owner often comes trepidation. Holly has brought fresh vision and talent. We are lucky to have her!" Alexa, a massage therapist/ esthetician who practices at Canal Lock Salon, feels " Holly is the fresh start we needed. She has made the transition so easy and seamless. We love her. "

What Holly most wants people to know is that you can find it all at Canal Lock Salon. There is no need to travel.

They have several private nail tech, massage, and facial rooms. They can accommodate bridal parties and large groups. They are self-described on their website as " a collection of talented hair stylists, nail artists, massage therapists, and estheticians who offer the only full-service salon and spa in Tipp City." "Our mission is to create a premier salon and haven where every guest experiences a warm welcome and personalized beauty experience right in the heart of downtown Tipp City."
