Tipp tennis increases lead in MVL

After a busy week where the Tippecanoe boys tennis team was in action with nine matches in ten days, The Red Devils strengthen their lead atop of the Miami Valley League with several victories.

In non-league action, Tipp defeated Alter 5-0, which included a huge first-singles match that saw Tipp’s Nick Von Krosigk had quite the battle with reigning state qualifier Michael Shope. Von Krosigk earned a tough 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory to lead the attack.

Alex Darner at second singles defeated Moses Mabarack 6-2, 6-2, while at third singles, Tipp’s Madoc LaBreck knocked off Noah Johnson 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, Brecken Owen and Quinn Gagnon had no trouble with Duckro and Skinn 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, it was Tipp’s Finn Gillenwater and Rohan Patel also putting together a solid day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Craft and Schumaker.

Also last week, Tipp lost to St. Xavier 3-2 in another non-conference match.

Von Krosigk lost his match and suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Carson Dwyer. But Darner earned another win at second singles, 7-5, 6-4 over Jonah Johnson. At third singles, LaBreck defeated Will Petry 6-1, 6-2.

Both doubles teams suffered tough losses, as Gagnon and Owen lost to Lynch and Brandt 6-0, 6-1. At second doubles, Gillenwater and Patel also lost to Ivanov and Demis 6-2, 6-0.

It was another tough matchup for Tipp last week when the Red Devils fell to Centerville 4-1.

The only win for Tipp came from Von Krosigk as he defeated Timmy Lee 6-1, 6-3. Both Darner and LaBreck suffered losses. Darner lost to Jake Critchfield 6-4, 6-7 (10-8), 5-4 (forfeit), while LaBreck suffered a defeat to Luke Edwards 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

Owen and Gagnon also lost their match to Wooten and Thambai-Pillaill 6-3, 6-2, while the second doubles of Patel and Gillenwater lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. 

Back in the MVL, Tipp shut down Fairborn 5-0. 

Von Krosigk defeated Case Ryan 6-0, 6-1 on a day where Tipp really stepped up to get back on track. LaBreck was second singles and earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Avery Kubicki, with Chris Kleather played third singles for Tipp, and earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Matthew Haskell.

Both doubles teams got things back to the winning ways. Owen and Gagnon won 6-0, 6-4, while Gillenwater and Patel earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Finally, on Thursday, the Red Devils squared off against the Valley Division leading Sidney squad, and the Red Devils were 4-1 winners to run their league record to 7-0.
