Tipp gets back on winning track

A day after losing a tough softball game to Wayne, the Tippecanoe Red Devils continued their solid MVL play by defeating West Carrollton 9-1 on the road last Wednesday south of Dayton.

Aubrey Davis pitched a gem on the mound for the Red Devils, going the distance, allowing only four hits and adding nine strikeouts.

“Davis threw a great game, and the defense played well,” Tipp coach Charles Tackett said. “We are still growing as a team, but it feels nice to get a road win.”

Tipp held a slim 1-0 lead into the fourth inning before exploding for a seven spot in that inning to open the game up.

The game opened up with a single from Davis, and one out later, Roo Snell plated the first run of the game with a single that brought Davis in to score.

Tipp put two runners on in the second as Jaina Drum and Kamryn Lockwood both had hits in the inning, only to come up empty.

West Carrollton put a runner in scoring position with a double in the third, but left her stranded, sending Tipp to the plate in the top of the fourth.

Elaina Strawser opened the frame with a single, then Drum reached on a bunt single. Hept loaded the bases with a single. Lockwood then brought home Strawser and Drum with a single, still with nobody out, giving Tipp a 3-0 lead.

Following an error, Davis helped herself by reaching on another error, bringing home two runs on the play, and giving Tipp a 5-0 lead.

Jocelyn Shelton then stepped up and singled to center to push the Tipp lead to 7-0 as Toby Ross and Davis both scored.

The final run in the inning scored when Snell doubled in Shelton and the Red Devils were in command by eight runs against the homesteading Pirates.

Tipp wrapped up their scoring an inning later when Shelton doubled to bring home Kenzi Cooper.

West Carrollton then scored their lone run in the sixth inning.

*On Friday, Tipp defeated West Carrollton 10-0 behind a two-hitter from Drum, who struck out five on the mound.

The game lasted five innings before Tipp reached the run-rule limit. Shelton led Tipp with three hits, while Snell had four RBIs in the victory for Tipp.

Tipp scored two runs in each the first and second inning before putting the game away with a six-run fourth inning.
