Tennis squad continues MVL dominance

It was another solid victory for the Tippecanoe boys tennis team as they defeated West Carrollton 5-0 last week at the middle school courts.

Nick Von Krosigk won at first singles 6-0, 6-0, while both the second singles player, Alex Darner, and the third singles player, Madoc Labreck, won by forfeit.

Winning the first doubles match was Chris Kleather and Grant Sheldon 6-0, 6-0, while at second doubles, it was Logan Sheldon and Henry Ranly, winning 6-1, 6-0.

With the win, Tipp moved to 4-0 in conference play and 6-3 overall.

“I am super proud of our guys coming out and competing,” Tipp coach Kaci Matthews said. “We don’t want to just win, we want to get better, and the only way to do that is to push them competitively. The matches we have lost have all been competitive, we have been in every one of them, and they are like 3-2 matches.”

Tipp lost to Bexley early in the season, who is now #2 in the state, and lost to Upper Arlington, who is in the top five.

“I have seen a lot of growth just through repetition. Getting to see good competition every day helps with pace and timing.”

“Our doubles teams are talking a lot more and getting used to each other.”

Von Krosigk has been consistent all year, according to Matthews, after a couple of tough losses to open the season.

“His confidence level is pretty high,” Matthews said, stating he hasn’t lost since the early season. “He continues to grow in his game, and you can really tell the senior maturity this year.”

She also praised Labreck, who has been solid all season for Tipp.

“He is only a sophomore, and he has been winning and losing us matches,” she said. “If he wins, we are usually able to pull out that match. Super proud of his composure and the handles both good competition and players not as good. He just plays hard every point and looks for opportunities to move up.”

Matthews also noted that Quinn Gagnon has moved up from the varsity B team and that his game has grown.

“He has come in mature and confident and aggressive at the net,” she said. “He is moving really well and communicates with his senior doubles partner Brecken Owen. Those two have really gelled.”
