Putting My Healthy Hat On
My regularly scheduled programming usually consists of me trying something fried, or doused in ranch, or a salad topped in all sorts of meaty, saucy delights. However, as I was venturing out for this week's column, I was also about to embark on a five-day camping journey filled with hot dogs, pizza, and everything else that can be eaten on its own or cooked over a fire. So, in an attempt to be cognizant of future meal choices, I took the healthy route and tried ReU Juicery on the square in Troy.
As I entered the Juicery, I was immediately greeted by two very kind women, who walked me through the menu, juices, and options. They were extremely sweet, and upon seeing my quizzical expression, they made me feel right at home. There was an abundance of juice, breakfast, and lunch options to choose from. From smoothies to bowls and juice flights, everything looked fresh and delicious.
I decided to order the Con Queso Harvest Bowl. The healthy and hearty flavor of this bowl would give any run-of-the-mill bowl-based chain a run for its money. The tomato rice bottom layer created a perfect platform for black beans, mixed greens, guacamole-hummus, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin seeds. All of these blended together perfectly with the delicious con queso sauce.
I decided to opt for a savory bowl, instead of the extremely tempting smoothie ones, because I knew that I wanted to enjoy each bite followed by a swig of the picturesque Ohana juice. The vibrant but all-natural blue juice tasted like lemonade after a hot day, fresh cucumbers, and zesty pineapple. I have no idea what Blue Majik is, but I do know that its added ingredient makes me feel like I look very cool while drinking it.
I’m not sure if this one meal canceled out the week-long junk food fuel I had while camping and hiking in the Smokies, but I do know that I absolutely adored it. Although parking in the square is scary, I plan to make the trip to ReU Juicery again to possibly try everything on the menu. I might even get a juice flight with the girls. I could use it, considering I usually go for something a little more… fermented.
ReU Juicery & Organic Kitchen is located at 5 E. Main St., Troy.
