Bethel Boys Golf Breaks 18 Hole Record
BY NATALIE SONNANSTINE
After intense digging through the Bethel record book, we are proud to announce that the Bethel Boys golf team set a new 18 hole school record. On Thursday, September 24, at their Division I Sectional at National Golf Links, the boys shot an overall score of 312, breaking the previous record of 314. The previous record was set August 7, 2024, at Echo Hills by Mike Halleg, Josh Fiery, Phillip Dix, Gabe Veldman, and Logan Norris. The head coach at the time was Ed Quincel. This new record was shot by Logan Norris (74), Lucas Vest (75), Braylen Stegner (81), Braden Shoup (82), and Ryder Cornwell (90). Dru Bescoe coached the boys this season to help lead them to the win, and place 6th at sectionals.
Senior Logan Norris led his team in breaking the school record. He is also the only boy on the team who broke the record in 2024, during his sophomore year. This was the golf team's first year in Division 1. Despite the new teams, Norris said the boys were quite confident going into the match. He said he was not surprised at getting the school record, and it feels great to be a part of Bethel history. At sectionals, Norris said it was a familiar experience, but always cool to be part of such a big tournament. At sectionals, the team was only six strokes away from qualifying for districts. Norris qualified individually for this match. He will represent Bethel on October 5th at Heatherwoode Golf Course. Norris said that it's “always fun to play in front of a crowd and when there is pressure,” and that definitely motivates the team to play their best. Overall, Norris was very satisfied with the team's season and his personal season. He worked extremely hard during the season and the off-season to achieve his goals and see the results he was looking for.
We congratulate the Bees on an amazing season, and cheer on Logan Norris as he takes on the District meet. Good luck!
