Busy Sunday evening for Tipp Fire

On Sunday, June 1 at 7:26 to 9:07 p.m., Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services (TCFES) responded to the area of 2376 West Charleston Road, Bethel Township, on the Great Miami River for a report of two adults stuck in the river with their boat missing. Vandalia Fire and Huber Heights Fire crews responded to the mutual aid request from Bethel Township Fire Department for a water rescue.

Tipp City Engine 32 assisted in locating and contacting victims in the water. Two of the victims were wearing life jackets. Huber Heights Fire conducted a boat rescue and successfully removed two individuals from the river. Tipp City M31 and a Vandalia M2 evaluated the victims at the scene for injuries. In total, four individuals were rescued during the incident. The river is a wonderful place to recreate. Moving water and changing conditions can create hazards. TCFES suggests that all boaters, kayakers, and floaters utilize a flotation device. The water is moving and has the ability to cause serious injuries or even death. Moving water can also destroy a boat trapped in the current.

While the water rescue was underway, Tipp City personnel responded to two additional emergency calls: a structure fire at 175 E. Ginghamsburg Road and a separate medical emergency. The fire was intentionally set by the owner of a mobile home. Reminder, Ohio EPA and RAPCA have opening burning regulations that must be followed.

In total, Tipp City Emergency Services crew responded to four separate emergency incidents within a two-hour period of time. No injuries were reported at the time of the water rescue by crews.
