Milton Union Tennis: Postseason Success

After covering the success the men’s tennis team had during the regular season, the team was excited to head into postseason play. 

On May 15, the Sectional Tournament was held in Troy and the teams had a great day. 

The teams are as follows: Levi Brumbaugh and Ben Iddings, and Tyler Combs and Titus Copp. Single players were Carson Lavy, Brock Hammond, and Chase Roy. All players moved on to round two of the sectional. In the first round, Brumbaugh and Iddings won 6-0, 6-0 against Lehman Catholic, Combs and Copp won 6-0, 6-0 against Urbana, Hammond won 6-0, 6-0 against Northridge, Roy won 6-0, 6-0 against Springfield Shawnee and Lavy won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 against Northwestern. In the second round, six ‘dogs advanced to the third round. Lavy fell to a number one seed, which ended his season and career. Brumbaugh and Iddings won 6-0, 6-0 against Northwestern, Combs and Copp won 6-0, 6-0 against Brookville, Hammon won 6-0, 6-0 against Northwestern, and Roy won 6-2, 6-2 against Lehman Catholic. 

During sectional play, Iddings made Milton-Union Tennis history. He reached the milestone of 100 wins, making him the only third player ever to accomplish this. In the third round, Brumbaugh and Iddings advanced after winning 6-0, 6-0 against Greenon. Combs and Copp also advanced after winning 6-0, 6-0. Number one seed, Brumbaugh and Iddings, and number two seed, Combs and Copp qualified for the District Tournament which will took place on May 22 at Centerville High School. However, these teams had to compete for seeding in Districts.  

Since both teams won their semi-final matches, they had to compete against each other. The outcome of this matchup ended as Brumbaugh and Iddings being Division II Sectional Champions. After this play, the MVTCA All-Area Honors were announced. Milton-Union was named “Team of the Year” as their record stood at 17-2. 

Iddings was awarded the “MVTCA Sportsmanship Award,” Brumbaugh and Iddings were both named “First Team All-Area Singles,” Combs and Copp were awarded “First Team All-Area Doubles,” Hammond and Roy were awarded “Third Team All-Area Doubles” and Lavy was named “Honorable Mention All-Area.” And finally, coach Kevin Brackman was named “MVTCA Coach of the Year.”
