Lunch Break-Sweet, Savory, Spicy, Oh My!
Sampling dishes and diners in and around Miami County
Although I’m a known fan of Tippecanoe’s local barbecue joint, I was in the mood for saucy food and to branch out. So, I decided to venture back to Englewood to try the adorably themed barbecue restaurant, Company 7 BBQ.
Upon entrance, the firefighter-themed restaurant was booming with customers. It just so happened that I decided to try Company 7 on one of their exciting Trivia nights. Although I didn’t participate, I can now confidently tell you that the shape of the black marks on a soccer ball is a pentagon. The more you know!
Despite the trivia crowd, seating and service were quick and delightful. After placing my order, I could take in both the adorable firefighter decor and the added Halloween decorations. I also can’t forget to mention the full fire truck bar. I do wonder if firefighters eat at Company 7 BBQ often, or if it’s like when my boyfriend's friends ask him what school he goes to when he’s wearing a college shirt. Or is it like how you never see cops inside a doughnut shop? Either way, the theme was delightful.
I was intrigued by the six packs of sauces at each table, so I decided to order the pulled chicken with a side salad and chips. This way, I could try every sauce. The Chips were incredible. Hand-cut, thick, and deliciously seasoned. The side salad was as good as a side salad can be, and the cornbread was a perfect little sweet treat.
Here’s the important part: the sauces. In my not-so-expert opinion, the top two are Chief Smoky and Lieutenant Tangy. The rookie comes in at a close third, and the rest aren’t too bad. Chief Smoky has a classic barbecue flavor with a slightly smoky aftertaste, but not enough to be overpowering. Lieutenant Tangy is kind of like a honey mustard barbecue; it is sweet and savory, but ultimately not classic. Finally, the rookie is just as its namesake, basic but does a good job.
Overall, the vibes and theme of Company 7 BBQ are cutesy and great for a family get-together or birthday celebration. I can absolutely see the joint making a three-year-old who’s obsessed with firefighters very happy. The food was tasty, and the trivia crowd and service were fun to be around. I’ll definitely be back again. However, next time I’m definitely trying the potato skins, because my mom’s looked incredible.
