Tipp City Schools Superintendent Update
As we approach the end of the first quarter, Tipp City Schools has much to celebrate, from student success and athletic achievements to steady progress on construction of the new PK–8 school. This season continues to highlight the dedication, talent, and spirit that make our schools and community exceptional.
Student and Staff Achievements
Our students continue to make us proud in every corner of the district. This fall, we are especially proud to recognize Tippecanoe High School senior Zicheng Guo for being named a National Merit Semifinalist!
This is one of the most prestigious academic honors in the nation. Out of more than 1.3 million students who entered the program by taking the PSAT, only about 16,000 students are recognized as semifinalists, less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide. Zicheng’s hard work, dedication, and academic excellence have earned him this incredible achievement. This honor reflects years of hard work, academic excellence, and a true commitment to learning.
Across the district, we’re seeing exceptional levels of engagement, collaboration, and creativity. Teachers are designing lessons that invite students to explore ideas deeply, work together to solve problems, and think critically about the world around them. When students are actively engaged, asking questions, sharing perspectives, and building on each other’s ideas, learning becomes more meaningful and lasting. This kind of participation not only strengthens academic skills but also builds confidence, teamwork, and a genuine love for learning.
Fall Sports Highlights
The Red Devils are lighting up the fall sports season with their outstanding performances! Across every field, court, and course, our athletes have given our community plenty to cheer about. From thrilling finishes and record-breaking runs to undefeated streaks and championship battles, teams are earning state rankings, winning MVL titles, and advancing in tournament play. This season has been a showcase of outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and class, and we couldn't be prouder of our athletes and coaches.
I also want to give a special shoutout to Tippecanoe High School golfer Ella Berning, who qualified for the OHSAA Division I State Golf Tournament. She is the first golfer from Tippecanoe to qualify for the State Tournament since 2015
Arts and Activities
Beyond athletics and academics, our students continue to shine in the arts. The Tippecanoe High School fall play will soon open, showcasing the talent, creativity, and collaboration of our students both on stage and behind the scenes. The fall play at Tippecanoe High School this year is Peter and the Starcatcher, with three performances: October 24 at 7:00 PM, October 25 at 7:00 PM, and October 26 at 2:00 PM. We encourage families and community members to attend and support our performing arts programs.
Construction Update: New PK–8 and Bus Garage/Maintenance Building Projects
Steady progress continues on Tipp City Schools’ major construction projects, and we are excited to share the latest updates with you. The bus garage/maintenance building is quickly taking shape and remains on schedule. Recently, crews finished brickwork and acid washing, completed the charging island pad, and poured the front apron and sidewalks along the bus barn. Work on the metal structure is advancing smoothly, and the building’s form is now clearly visible from the parking lot. In addition, crews are moving
forward with site preparation for bus parking and paving, setting the stage for final surface work in the coming weeks.

Work continues on the new PK–8 site, with significant advancements occurring across the site. Crews have been working diligently to shape the property, including excavating and grading the detention ponds, preparing the land for drainage, and working on the building pad.
Site development also includes creating a new entrance and traffic pattern that will improve flow and safety for buses, families, and visitors. The school and construction teams are finalizing the details to ensure safe and efficient entry and exit points, designed to ease congestion during arrival and dismissal. This plan includes establishing a right-turn-only exit during TMS student drop-off and pickup. Once this is finalized, a new staff parking lot will replace the temporary gravel lot currently in use. It’s an exciting phase of visible transformation.
L.T. Ball Intermediate School
Last week, L.T. Ball Intermediate School experienced a brief water issue that required an early dismissal, making it a truly all-hands-on-deck moment. Our staff responded with calm professionalism and genuine care, organizing transportation, contacting families and daycare providers, and ensuring that every student arrived home or at childcare safely. I’m incredibly grateful for their teamwork and quick thinking. In the coming days, we’ll also replace some floor tiles. Situations like this remind us how fortunate we are to have such dedicated, student-centered staff who prioritize safety and support.
Innovation and Staffing Updates
Tipp City Schools recently launched a pilot program to expand substitute teacher eligibility for grades K–5, creating new opportunities for community members to serve in our schools. The pilot allows individuals 25 years or older with a high school diploma (or equivalent) to serve as substitute teachers in kindergarten through 5th-grade classrooms, even if they don’t hold a bachelor’s degree.
It also allows those who are 18 years or older and currently enrolled in an education preparation program, or holding a bachelor’s degree, to apply. This change helps ensure consistent classroom coverage and supports uninterrupted learning. Interested individuals can begin the process by contacting Chelsea Syphrit, the district’s Substitute Caller, at 937-669-6317 or cnsyphrit@tippcity.k12.oh.us.
We are also actively seeking substitute bus drivers to help transport our students safely each day. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking flexible, meaningful work that has a direct impact on our schools. Contact the Director of Transportation, Kevin Goff, at 937-667-8444.
Community Partnerships
Tipp City Schools thrives because of strong community support. From local businesses contributing to our programs to families volunteering in our classrooms and cheering from the sidelines, involvement continues to make a significant difference. Your support is not just appreciated, it is integral to the success of our school district. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Tipp City.
As we look ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to preparing every student to think critically, act responsibly, and succeed in college, career, or service. This mission guides every decision and action
we take, ensuring that we continually work in the best interests of our students. Together, we’re building a stronger future for Tipp City.
