Dogs Race Twice in Three Days

The cross country team raced twice in the span of three days, and junior Colin Hinkelman was the champion of both. 

The first race of the week was the Tecumseh Invitational on Sept. 23. Hinkelman won this race in a time of 16:33.8, which was over 20 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Younger brother Grant Hinkelman finished in fifth place with a time of 17:23.6. Next in for the boys was Andrew Oaks in 10th place (17:44.9), Chase Parsons in 12th (17:55.1), Tyler Shoemaker (19:09.2), Finn Hinkelman (20:10.4) and Cotton Gambrel (26:01.2.)

The team placed second out of 8 total teams. 

The girls team also competed in this race. Leading for the team was Aubree Bates who placed 11th in a time of 20:59.5. Following Bates was Sydnie Bartlett who placed 21st (22:30.3), Amelia Iddings who placed 25th (22:50.5), Alaina Manning in 51st (25:10.2), Jessa Lightner in 53rd (25:15.6), Mallory Coate in 59th (25:55.2) and Lola Taylor (26:19.2.)

The girls team placed 4th out of 8 total teams. 

Both teams then competed once again on Sept. 25 at Milton-Union. They hosted a two mile race, which differs from their normal 3.12. 

C. Hinkelman won this race as well, finishing in a time of 10:07.0, which is an average pace of 5:04/mile. G. Hinkelman finished in second at a time of 10:38.0, Oaks in fifth at 10:58.2, Parsons in eighth at 11:14.9, F. Hinkelman was 16th at 11:37.1 and Shoemaker right behind him in 17th at 11:43.7. 

On the girls side, Bates took the win with a time of 12:47.6, which is an average pace of 6:24/mile. Bartlett placed sixth in a time of 13:34.5, Iddings in ninth at 13:46.9, Manning in 17th at 14:33.7, Coate in 21st at 15:02.0, Lightner in 26th at 15:44.3 and Taylor in 29th at 16:08.8.

The Three Rivers Conference Championships are approaching quickly for both teams and they are reaching for their 3-peat. They will race at Milton-Union on Oct. 11 to fight for the win!
