Seven scorers lead Tipp Boys Soccer past Fairborn
It was a completely balanced attack last week as the Tippecanoe boys soccer team took care of business in a Miami Valley League contest against Fairborn. They cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Skyhawks and maintained their spot tied with Troy atop the conference standings.
The Red Devils scored five times in the opening half to take command of the game. They capped it with four more goals in the final 40 minutes en route to the victory.
Owen Vonderheide led off the scoring for Tipp, taking a pass from Eli Kettel just three minutes into the game. This gave Tipp a quick 1-0 lead.
Mason Mader then made it 2-0 with 32:50 left in the half when he scored off an assist from Brayden Kocher. This was just seconds after Mader missed a shot when he fired high from 15 yards out.
Maddox Robinson took a pass from Wes Tipton and gave Tipp their third goal of the game with 26:15 left in the half. Six minutes later, another score for Tipp came when Vonderheide scored his second goal from Griffin Federle.
The final goal of the first half came with 17:36 left. Gabe Morgan made it 5-0 with the assist going to Robinson.
“They have two of the top scorers in the league, and they have scored a lot of goals, so we figured it would be a battle,” Tipp coach Joel Slyman said. “That was the best we have looked in the first half for a long time, so I am proud of the guys for stepping up. It was a big momentum game for us.”
The second half was much like the first. Tipp scored four times, including two from Ridley Brenner, and one each from Mason Lopez and Robinson.
Tipp now looks to keep the momentum going this week with a game at Piqua, then travels to Sidney on Tuesday for another key MVL match.
“Each game is a big one for us because we are focused on post season seeding as well,” Slyman said. “Guys realize that each game matters, and we have a lot of common opponents with games coming up. We want to take care of business and do it soundly.”
“We need to do what we need to do to set ourselves up for something big in the tournament.”
*Tipp also earned a tough non-conference victory last Thursday night, defeating Chaminade Julienne 1-0 on the road in downtown Dayton.
