Shope hired as Director of Municipal Services

The city of Tipp City has announced the hiring of Joey Shope to serve as the city’s new Director of Municipal Services.

Shope’s first day in the Director of Municipal Services position was Monday, July 13.

“I’m excited,” Shope said. “The first few weeks in here, I’ve been so impressed with the staff and all of their knowledge, and just how much work everyone’s doing. It’s been really exciting to see.”

The Director of Municipal Services oversees the city’s electric, water, streets, parks and engineering operations.

Before coming to Tipp City, Shope previously served as the Assistant Public Services Director for the city of Beavercreek. Prior to that, he also worked for the city of Dayton, where he served as the city’s Facilities and Property Manager.

“I worked for the city of Dayton for a little over ten years,” Shope said. “After my time at the city of Dayton, I was at Beavercreek for five years.”

Shope said several different factors led him to choose to work for the city of Tipp City.

“There were several factors,” he said. “I’ve met some of the folks here over the years, in my local government experience, so I was excited about that aspect, of already knowing some of the staff.”

“There’s a lot going on here,” Shope said. “I think the city is moving in a wonderful direction.”

A native of Clarksville, Shope said he has lived in the Dayton area since 2004.

“I grew up in Clarksville, Ohio, but I’ve been in the Dayton area since I graduated from high school,” he said.

Shope is married and has two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, and also serves as a coach for his daughter’s flag football team.

Shope said he is excited about starting in his new role with the City of Tipp City.

“There’s so much going on,” he said. “A big role is just supporting the team, to make sure they have what they need to handle the day-to-day. That allows me to focus more on the bigger projects.”

“I’m excited to be a part of that,” he said. “It’s a little bit newer for me, so I’m looking forward to really diving into electric and water.”
