Key games this fall for Tipp City Schools

The season is here.

With practices underway, it is time to gear up for the 2026-27 school year and the start of the fall sport season. This week, the Gazette is running all of the Tipp fall sports schedules for the upcoming season.

Along with that, I have chosen one game from each sport that is worth noting as they head into the new campaign. While the players and coaches always profess ‘one game at a time’ and not to look ahead, I am looking ahead as a fan to see what games are going to be the attention grabbers.

Football- October 16 at Troy: Everyone will be ready for this one. The opponents from up north will get to host this one, and being week nine, the question will be where Tipp sits as far as not only the conference title, but the all-important computer points. Tipp knocked off the Trojans 21-0 last season, and there is no love lost between the teams on the field. There are eight very important games before this one, but hopefully fans can make the trip to Troy that evening,

Boys Golf- September 16 vs Butler: Tipp edged out the Aviators last season by five shots in their head-to-head MVL matchup, and Butler returns two juniors expected to give Butler a chance to dethrone Tipp in the league. Bennett Bardonaro returns, as does Timothy Jacobs, who were both all-conference last season, and Tipp will have to be ready for that matchup. Tipp brings back Andrew Gagnon, Thomas Miller, and Grant Paulet, who were all-conference last season. This matchup will be at Homestead.

Girls Golf- August 11 vs Greenville: Tipp lost all three of their all-conference players, and Greenville was right on their heels last year, finishing second behind Tipp one game back. We will have to see who steps up for Tipp, and Greenville lost their top players also. But Green Wave freshman Piper Jenkinson will be one to watch, she is the real deal. I hope to get to this match in a couple of weeks at Homestead to see this showdown in action.

Boys Soccer- September 3 at Bellbrook: After finishing second in the SWBL last season, Bellbrook returns three standout players who Tipp will have to contend with. Noah Kosins, Kai Lassiter and Braden Poole are all-conference players returning for the Golden Eagles and coming off a 0-0 tie with Tipp last year, the second year in a row the two teams tied. Tipp returns Eli Kettel and Maddox Robinson as senior leaders. Tipp always plays a solid game at Bellbrook.

Girls Soccer- October 10 vs Legacy Christian: Late in the year, a non-conference game I will have my eye on is when Legacy Christian comes to town. They advanced to the regional finals last year before losing 2-1 to eventual state champion Madeira. They returned seven first-team all-conference players (albeit a very, very weak Metro Buckeye Conference), including Player of the Year Ava Combs. It will be a great challenge for Tipp as both teams will have their eye on the tournament at that point. Tipp will have their own firepower returning with the likes of Maddie Hook, Maryn Perrault and Julia Burgbacher.

Volleyball- September 26 at Versailles: This is a total guess. Tipp was so dominant compared to everyone on their schedule last year. There was nobody who gave them a game in the regular season. The Tigers are usually competitive, especially in the tough MAC, but this is my best guess. I would also say October 12 at Coldwater, who was the only team in the regular season to beat Tipp in one game. Expect another big run by Tipp.

Girls Tennis- August 13 at Troy: I was going to pick the Miami Valley School match as the toughest match for Tipp this season, and I still think it could be a very tough challenge. But in the MVL, this year I think their match at Troy will be one to watch. Tipp returns five all-conference players, and until they are proven wrong, they are the favorites in the conference for yet another season. Troy brings back a very good duo of Izzy Lutz and Maile Romberger to challenge, but will it be enough? They will also have to wait and see who steps up this season.

Cross Country- Because their meets draw so many unknown teams, it is impossible for me to pick one as the key race of the season. The Trinity in Louisville is always competitive, but the Centerville Night Race on August 29 will be one to watch. I am hoping to get to the Greenville Invitational in a few weeks, along with coverage of the home meet in October.
