It isn’t by accident…

BY TASHA WEAVER

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with a young family who recently made a decision that many of us who have lived here for years might take for granted. They chose Tipp City. Not because they had to. Because they wanted to. As we talked, I asked them what they loved most about living here. Their answer wasn't about a single event or one particular business. It was something much simpler.

Some evenings, when they aren't quite sure what to do, they load their five-year-old and three-month-old into the stroller and head downtown. They walk the sidewalks, stop into Bodega Market, let their oldest pick out a treat from Rad Candy Company, and then continue on to Kyle Park or City Park. They told me they love that they feel safe. They love that downtown is beautiful. They love that they can spend time together without having to plan an elaborate outing. Everything they need for a wonderful evening is right here.

As I listened, I realized I've heard versions of that same story countless times. People choose Tipp City because of how it feels. It's the feeling of waving to someone you know across the street. It's running into neighbors while grabbing coffee. It's watching children laugh as they explore downtown or families gathering for an evening stroll. That feeling is what makes this community so special.

But here's something we don't always stop to think about. It isn't by accident. Downtown doesn't stay beautiful on its own. Volunteers spend countless hours planting flowers, organizing events, hanging decorations, and dreaming up new ways to make our community even better. Our Parks Department works tirelessly to keep our parks clean, welcoming, and ready for families to enjoy. Business owners listen to their customers, invest in their storefronts, and take pride in creating places people want to visit again and again.

Behind every beautiful flower bed, every welcoming storefront, every family event, and every peaceful evening walk are people who care deeply about this community. That care is what creates the feeling so many of us cherish.

One of my favorite parts of my job is when someone stops by my office just to talk. In fact, I especially appreciate the conversations that begin with, "Can I tell you something?" Sometimes it's an idea. Sometimes it's a concern. Sometimes it's a problem that needs solved. At the Downtown Tipp City Partnership, we take feedback seriously because we believe there is always room to make our downtown even better. The people who love this community are often the ones with the best ideas for strengthening it.

So, if you've ever wondered why Tipp City feels different, I hope you'll remember that it isn't by accident. It's the result of thousands of acts of kindness, pride, hard work, and collaboration by people who simply love where they live. And that's something worth protecting.
