Cincinnati Open: Gauff Wins Again, takes Women’s Singles

The Tippecanoe Gazette was there to watch the Women’s Singles Finals, held Sunday night, August 23, in Cincinnati, OH. In the all-American match, Coco Gauff jumped out to a commanding lead early, dominating with her serves and quick place. Pegula answered with a variety of drops and lobs, and they both were smacking the ball with lots of gusto, but in the end, Gauff dominated the match. From the Cincinnati Open official press release:

“Coco Gauff defeated compatriot Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-4 in the first all-American Cincinnati Open women’s final since 1970. It’s Gauff’s first title of 2026 and second here after winning the Rookwood Cup in 2023 and going on to win her first US Open a few weeks later. History was witnessed on Sunday when Arthur Fils defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the first-ever ATP Masters 1000 final between two Black players.”

Here are some pictures taken by our staff on-site at the big game. And for some reason, there was a guy dressed up like George Washington. Enjoy!
