Socialite Club opens at Cassel Hills Golf Course
VANDALIA- Fine dining has returned to Cassel Hills Golf Course, thanks to a unique partnership between the city of Vandalia and the owners of the Socialite Café restaurant in Kettering.
City leaders and community members gathered to unveil the new Socialite Club location inside the Cassel Hills Golf Course clubhouse during a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Vandalia-Butler Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, June 30. The new restaurant is part of a larger renovation project at the course’s iconic clubhouse building, which has been fully remodeled.
“I think we all notice the incredible transformation that has taken place in here over the last couple of months,” Mayor Richard Herbst said. “It truly looks beautiful.”
“This project represents a unique and exciting relationship between the Socialite and the city of Vandalia,” Herbst said. “A great deal of the credit goes to the Socialite Club staff, contractors and craftsmen who brought this vision to be.”
Located within the clubhouse building at 201 Clubhouse Way, the Socialite Club features a large dining room and bar, with three different areas for seating including an outdoor patio and a covered porch. A second bar area for serving golfers in the clubhouse was also fully remodeled as part of the renovations, and the Socialite Club has taken over all of the food and beverage services for Cassel Hills' golf course.
The menu at the new Socialite Club features upscale, fine-dining options, with a variety of items ranging from steak and salmon to chicken dinners and sandwiches, as well as standard golf course fare.
“It’s the kind of thing that you would expect to find at an upscale golf course, where you’re able to get a proper chicken dinner, or a steak frites (steak and potato dinner), or salmon and asparagus,” Socialite Club owner Scott Allendevaux said.
The Socialite Club restaurant accepts reservations, and the space is also available to rent for weddings and other events.
“We’re so pleased that the city invited us in,” Allendevaux said. “There really isn’t a place like this in Vandalia to go to.”
“It’s about an experience,” he said.
Allendevaux and his wife, Rebekah, also own the original Socialite Café, which is located in Kettering. Their kids, who live in Vandalia, also work in the family business, and helped to perform the recent renovations.
“We’re a husband-and-wife team,” he said. “My kids work here.”
“My family built this,” he said. “My son laid the floor; my other son built the bar out of lumber we bought from Lowe’s.”
“They’ve done a fabulous job, renovating this entire beautiful building here into something that creates a unique atmosphere that’s very special,” Vandalia City Manager Kurt Althouse said.
“I’m thrilled with this partnership we’ve got with the Socialite Club,” he said. “We have a lot of options here when it comes to fast food service, but fine dining was pretty limited.”
Cassel Hills Golf Course has been open since 1974, Herbst said.
“For decades, this golf course has been perceived as one of the premier public courses in all the Miami Valley,” he said. “More than a renovation has been done here; what has been created is a destination spot here in Vandalia, and the best part is it’s right here in our backyard.”
“This place is really important to the community,” Vandalia council member Chris Royce said. “A lot of us who grew up here have connections and memories to this place.”
“This iconic clubhouse needed to be preserved and re-opened,” Royce said.
