Person of the Week: Joanna Pittenger, Tipp City Council

Recently, the Tippecanoe Gazette reached out to Joanna Pittenger, a Tipp City Council member, to find out more about her and her tenure on Council. She responded to our questions, and here is an edited summary of what she had to say.

Joanna, could you give us a high-level summary of your position on the Council and the major issues/projects you have been involved in? I have been involved in improvements to the Plaza, the development of new housing areas in Tipp City, and the purchase of the Long property. I have also been involved in the issues of trying to obtain a grocery store.

Why did you decide to become a Council member? I decided to run for Council after serving nearly 30 years as a Paramedic for Tipp City Emergency Services. I also worked for the City as a Human Resources Generalist for four years.

How many years have you been on the Council, and what were the Council’s most significant accomplishments during those years? My term began in January 2021. One of the most significant accomplishments has been the improvements to the Tipp City Plaza.

Are there any specific goals you hope to accomplish while on the Council? I would like to see more attendance at the Council meetings. Please come and voice your concerns and compliments. There is a public comments section on each agenda.

Is Tipp City headed in the right direction? Any changes needed? Changes have been made to make Tipp City the wonderful community it is now.

Tell us about your personal life, as much as you want to share. Where were you born, and where did you grow up? I was born in Troy, Ohio.

Where did you go to high school? College? Attended school in Bradford and Greenville. I attended Edison State and Urbana College.

 Tell us about your family. I married Gordon Pittenger in 1995, and he passed in August of 2022.
