Fox with big sophomore season for Red Devils

Coming off a freshman season in which Noah Fox primarily played on the Tippecanoe junior varsity baseball squad, his offseason work ethic and dedication to making an impact for the Tipp program stood out this past season.

As he heads into his junior season, Fox made the improvement all the way from playing three varsity games as a freshman to making first-team all-MVL this past season, batting an impressive .407 as a sophomore with a team-high 37 hits. For Fox, the season was special not only for himself, but he was a key part of Tipp winning their first district title in ten years.

“It was a great feeling to be a part of,” Fox said. “I really enjoyed my time and friendships with the seniors on the team, so it felt awesome to celebrate with them. We had some challenges earlier in the season, but it was good to come out the way we did in the end.”

“We had several games where we had to play from behind, but we always found a way to win, which was exactly how it was in the district game. We all felt proud on the bus ride home, knowing we had accomplished something that hadn't been achieved for 10 years.”

Fox, a catcher by trade, is a versatile player who was put at third base this year to help strengthen the team and the move was successful for Tipp, and Fox.

“I have always had a high baseball IQ and can understand game-like situations, giving me the ability to play wherever I am needed in the field,” he said. “I have been a primary catcher for my summer teams the last few years, but was asked to play third base this year since that was where my team needed me the most.”

“I am constantly studying the game by watching college and pro baseball, so it was easy for me to slide into that position. In the off-season, I also worked with Sam Faulker for strength training. Because of the work I put in, I have seen major gains in my running, agility, and arm strength.”

Now that he has tasted success on the varsity level with his team, he is gearing up for his junior year next spring with a lot of lofty goals for his team and his own game.

“I would like to lead the team back to another district championship next year and even further if we can,” he said. “A main goal for next year is to lead the team and welcome the underclassmen who will be moving up to varsity. I would also love to work on breaking some school records and earning more All-MVL, All-Area, and All-State awards.”

Fox said he fell in love with the sport the first day he stepped onto the field for t-ball practice. After playing another sport at that time, he chose to focus on a sport he excels in.

“I played soccer too for a few years, but decided to focus solely on baseball in fifth grade,” Fox  said. “I started playing select baseball when I was nine, then at 13 and 14, I was invited to play for the Game Day USA Prospects team. It was a great experience playing with other kids from across the United States in Panama City Beach during winter break.”

“Playing there showed me what true competitive baseball was like, and it pushed me to become a better player myself. I love the challenge that playing baseball gives me.”

While he has dedicated his life to baseball, he knows how important the offseason and summer are. He is working this summer to improve his game and make himself noticeable for coaches at the next level.

“This summer, I will be playing with the Miami Valley Prospects 16u team. We have several tournaments around Ohio where I will continue playing catcher and 3rd base,” Fox said. “I am attending the Top Prospect Games with Prep Baseball Ohio, where many college scouts will be in attendance. These events are also a great way to measure my growth from season to season through the metrics they track, helping me identify areas I can continue to improve. I also plan to go to a few college prospect camps.”
