Tipp suffers no-hitter in regionals

They knew exactly who was in front of them heading into the regional baseball tournament, and unfortunately for the Tippecanoe baseball team, they had no answers for the Badin Rams.

The number-one seed scored early and often, built an insurmountable lead against the Red Devils. Behind pitcher Brooks Treadway, Badin eliminated Tipp in the regional semi-finals 10-0 in a five-inning run rule.

Treadway threw a no-hitter against the Red Devils, allowing one walk in the victory. Badin scored in every inning, including five runs over the first two innings, to set the tone for the victory.

“It was a tough way to go out, but it was a good season,” Tipp coach Cam Dickens said. “I knew they were good, but I didn’t see it going that way.”

“If there is a better team in Ohio in any division, I would love to see them. They are very well coached and a well-oiled machine. I don’t think we had a lot of self-inflicted wounds…. they just beat us. They hit 1-9 in the order, and Brooks Treadway was phenomenal on the mound. He kept us at bay.”

Heading into the game, Dickens said he thought the kids were in a good place.

“We took BP early before we left and the kids were free and relaxed, and they were excited to go. You can feel the excitement amongst the group over the couple of days.”

“We started out well and our energy was good, but it may be hard to maintain that once the lead started getting to where it got.”

After Badin scored twice in the opening inning, they plated three more runs in the second to build their lead to 5-0. They collected 15 hits in the win, including four from Derek Ogden in their offense.

Cayden McKinney pitched into the third inning and gave up seven runs before being relieved. Tipp’s Noah Fox was the lone Red Devil to reach base with a walk to lead off the fourth.

“Their guy was in the strike zone a lot,” Dickens said, referring to the Badin pitcher only recording one strikeout even with allowing no hits. “It wasn’t dominant stuff, and we struck some things well that found some gloves early on, and as the game went on, we hit too many pop-ups in the air.”

Dickens was proud of his team coming down the stretch, picking up two wins against regional finalist Butler and earning the first district title since 2016.

“It may be hard now, but they will look back and appreciate what they did,” Dickens said. “Coming off of last season, I am not sure who thought we would win 24 games, especially starting the season 1-3. This group took ownership of how they wanted this season to go.”
