Von Krosigk sets school record as Tipp wins MVL again

The success in the MVL for the Tipp boys tennis team goes unmatched. Six years now in the MVL, and after the league tournament concluded last Thursday, it is six championships. Not only did they win the league title, but they swept all five matches in the league tournament as all of Tipp’s competitors won championships.

On top of that, Tipp’s number one singles player Nick Von Krosigk became the all-time winningest tennis player in school history, earning his 102nd all-time victory in the championship game on Thursday.

“I am really proud of the boys, the way they came out and competed today, and were very focused,” Tipp coach Kaci Matthews said. “They are such goal-oriented kids, and that makes our team that much better.”
“It has been our goal since day one to win the MVL championship, and this is six in a row for us. We have not lost yet, and it is always a team goal of ours to win it.”

Von Krosigk earned the win at first singles, including 8-0 in the finals. Alex Darner also won the second singles title, and Madoc LaBreck won the third singles spot.

Both of Tipp’s doubles teams also claimed the championship in their respective matches. Playing first doubles were Brecken Owen and Quinn Gagnon, while Rohan Patel and Finn Gillenwater won second doubles.

“The MVL tournament is a benchmark for us to see that we are putting in the work in the offseason, and it’s a good feeling to know they were validated today.”
As for Von Krosigk, his opening win of the tournament was number 100 for his career, then two wins later, he set the record.

“It is unreal, I have been so blessed to coach some great tennis players in the past, but Nick is in a league of his own,” Matthews said. Cameron Davis had the previous record of 101 for his career.

“Ever since Cam had that record, Nick has been chasing that, and it has been his goal to reach 100 but then to get the all-time record.”

“What was really special about this was that Cameron was Nick’s doubles partner for two of those years, and they formed a bond. Cameron left Findlay University today and drove down to watch him get 100 wins, then cheered on to watch him break his career record. That shows you the type of culture we have here.”

Von Krosigk had a great support system at the matches last week with his family in attendance, and felt good about how the day went.

“The 100th win was great, I had my whole family there, and it was a great warmup for the tournament,” Von Krosigk said. “I played pretty good that match, and we got to celebrate.”

“Breaking the record felt good too, maybe even more special since my good buddy had the old record.”

“I felt good in that match and played some of my best tennis. I have been playing this game for so long, and it was great to have this experience with my teammates the last few years.”
