Tipp tennis sends six to districts
It was a great week for the Tipp tennis team, as they sent six of their seven tennis players to the boys tennis districts. Both of their doubles teams advanced, as did two of their singles players.
Nick Von Krosigk earned his third sectional championship with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Kyle Penny from Troy in the finals. He earned a number one seed at districts this week with a dominant week. He opened play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emerson Babian of Springfield, then defeated Carter Hain of Butler 6-0, 6-0 to reach the final four.
Von Krosigk then took care of Casey Ryan of Fairborn before disposing of Penny. In his sophomore year, he was the sectional doubles champion with Cameron Davis, and then in the last two years, he won the singles title.
Alex Darner also advanced and battled through two tough three-set matches with Penny in the semifinals and Ryan for the third seed.
Darner defeated Usayd Ashraf of Springfield in his opening match 6-0, 6-1, then defeated Avery Kubicki of Fairborn 6-1, 6-0 to qualify for districts. He spent six hours on the court on Friday and finished as the fourth overall seed.
Madoc LaBreck won his opening match 6-2, 6-1 over Miles Dooley before falling to Penny in the second round.
Brecken Owen and Quinn Gagnon lost in the semi-finals against their teammates Rohan Patel and Finn Gillenwater, but both Tipp doubles teams did qualify for the districts.
Owen and Gagnon defeated Ashton Beisner and Shiv Patel of Troy 6-1, 6-1, then took care of Will Bosland and Lucas Cave of Springfield 6-1, 6-2. They earned a tough 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Dalton Orr and Jayce Tufano of Butler to advance to the final four.
They bounced back from a loss to Patel and Gillenwater and defeated their opponents from Troy to earn the third seed.
Patel and Gillenwater lost to the #1 seeded Sidney doubles team in three sets to earn the second seed heading into the DI District Tennis Tournament tomorrow.
