Tipp gets revenge against Piqua 10-2

They all remember what happened last season in the postseason when Piqua came to town and knocked the Tipp softball out of the postseason with a shocking win. It didn’t take the Red Devils long to get things going at home last Friday, April 3rd.

Five runs scored in the opening inning and that opened the way for a 10-2 victory for the Red Devils in a key Miami Valley League contest.

“The girls were locked in from the first pitch tonight,” Tipp coach Charles Tackett said. “We talked yesterday in our team huddle after the game- sometimes you have to get your butt kicked like the Beavercreek game to get you refocused.”

Tipp pounded out 14 hits in the win, including three each from Elaina Strawser and Jaina Drum, while several others each added two hits in the game.

Drum was also masterful on the mound, pitching a complete game and allowing only the two runs with six strikeouts

“Drum has been on a nice roll so far this season,” Tackett said. “If we are to contend for a league title, she is going to have to stay locked in. But Davis is also going to have to step up through the season. Drum can’t do it alone.”

The Red Devils started fast as Aubrey Davis led off with a single and after a passed ball, Jocelyn Shelton singled in the game’s first run. Strawser made it 2-0 with a hit, and Lilly Hept walked with the bases loaded, giving Tipp their third run of the game.

Kamryn Lockwood then drove home two more runs, and after their first at-bat, Tipp was in control 5-0.

Charlize McCormick doubled home two runs in the second inning, then she had another big double in the third to make it 9-1, putting the game out of reach.

“Different people have to step up each night,” Tackett said. “That is the good thing with our lineup. Also, these girls play hard for each other, and it has been fun to see. They are learning and growing each game.”

Tipp returns home on Friday as West Carrollton comes to town for a 5 p.m. game, then on Monday, Greenville makes their annual trip to Tipp.
