From Fossils to Space: Summer Camps at the Boonshoft Museum
Bring Science to Life for Kids
Registration now open for hands-on camps for kids ages 5-14
Dig for fossils. Launch into space. Meet live animals. Build inventions.
That’s just a glimpse of what kids can experience this summer at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, which offers Summer STEM Camp programming.
Designed for ages 5-14, the museum’s camps run weekly from June through July, with full day options during the week to fit a variety of schedules.
Each week features a different theme, including:
Paleontology: Fossil Finders – uncover ancient worlds and dig into real science
Astronomy: Mission Control – explore space, planets, and the universe
Zoology: Paws and Claws – get up close with animals and their habitats
STEAM: Invention Convention – design, build, and test creative ideas
Archaeology at SunWatch Village – explore history through hands-on field science at a local archaeological park
Themed weeks include interactive experiments, live animal encounters, and hands-on projects, giving campers the chance to actively explore topics rather than just learn about them.
Unlike traditional camps, the Boonshoft experience blends science, nature, and play, with access to real museum exhibits, wildlife, and expert educators who guide kids through meaningful, memorable activities.
“Kids aren’t just sitting and listening, they’re experimenting, building, and discovering,” said Director of Education, Kineta Sanford. “It’s the kind of experience that makes memories long after the summer ends.”
With a wide range of topics—from dinosaurs and ecosystems to engineering and space—families can choose camps that match their child’s interests or encourage them to try something new.
