Dresses without Stress at Tipp City Public Library

Tippecanoe High School is approaching the exciting time of year when juniors and seniors are bursting with excitement for their last hoorah before summer vacation. During the grueling exam, sports, and college application season, upperclassmen in Tippecanoe High School are looking forward to one event that tops the rest of the school year. Prom.

Although prom is an exciting night, the glitz, glamour, hair, nails, and, especially, the dresses can become pretty expensive. All the fancy aspects of prom make it exciting, but also expensive. However, Tipp City Public Library’s teen librarian, Eric Knapp, in partnership with the library itself, has created a no-cost way to show up at prom looking your best, without the financial stress of a dress.

From now until April 25th, teens can browse more than just books at their local library. If you’re headed to prom and you’re worried about the cost of looking your best, you can check out a dress for your special night just as you would a book at the Tipp City Public Library. The difference is that no library card is needed and no returns are expected. Teens can pick up a dress, try it on, take it home, and wear it for their anticipated high school dance. They could even keep it and donate it back to the library the following year.

For parents, the prom dress exchange program can ease the anxiety of financing formal attire. Teen librarian, Eric Knapp, says, “The idea is that a lot of teens want to go to prom, but not everyone can afford a dress.” However, Knapp has also expressed how dresses have been used for fashion art projects and other formal events in the past. If you need a dress, you’ll use it for a good cause, and you’ll enjoy it; it’s yours.

Dresses aren’t limited to Tippecanoe High School students; anyone with an upcoming prom can “shop” for their evening gown at the library, and anyone can donate. If you have an old dress lying around that you want to pass on to someone who can make more memories in it, don't be afraid to bring it in. Knapp says there is a variety of dresses available in the basement of the Tipp City Public Library, and something for everyone in a multitude of sizes. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, people are constantly taking, returning, and donating Items.

Prom is an event that should be enjoyed by every student, and every girl should feel like a princess on the once-in-a-lifetime event. At Tipp City Public Library, Eric Knapp is making prom possible for girls who may have thought the magical night was just a dream. If you have an old, but beautiful dress taking up space, clean out your closet and help Tipp City Public Library make prom night dreams come true.

The Tipp City Public Library is located at 11 E. Main St.
