*UPDATE* A shocking crime rattles a close-knit community
Residents in Tipp City are reeling following the shooting death of a well-known former teacher.
The Tipp City Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the shooting death of 37-year-old Ashley Flynn.
Police were dispatched to a home on Cunningham Drive after reports of a burglary and shooting. When they arrived, police said they found Flynn suffering from a gunshot wound, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say her husband and two children were inside the home.
Shortly after arriving on scene, investigators set up a perimeter and deployed police canines and drones to search for possible suspects; however, they say no one was found during that search. Crime scene technicians from both the Tipp City Police Department and Ohio BCI were on scene for hours processing evidence.
Flynn was a well-known and beloved member of the community. According to Tipp City Schools, Flynn was a Tippecanoe Middle School volleyball coach, a dedicated substitute teacher, and a former teacher.
In a statement the district said: “Tipp City Schools extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Ashley Flynn. She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many both in and out of the classroom and on the court. Our thoughts are with all who are grieving during this difficult time.”
Tipp City Schools also said they will have counseling services available for students who may need help coping. They urge parents to contact the school office if their children need extra support.
The police department and city manager’s office also put out a statement saying: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time. The Tipp City Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Our officers, along with assisting agencies, are working diligently to gather all relevant facts and ensure a thorough investigation. At this time, we ask for patience as the investigation proceeds and for the community to avoid speculation while law enforcement completes its work. The safety of our residents remains our highest priority. Tipp City has always been a close-knit community, and moments like this impact us all. We are grateful for the professionalism and dedication of our first responders who are actively working this situation swiftly and with care.”
Neighbors of the Flynns weren’t comfortable being quoted but said they are heartbroken and unnerved by Monday’s shooting. They said the family was well loved in Tipp City.
The police department is asking anyone in the community who may have information or video footage that could help the investigation to contact them at 937-667-3112.
