Snowmaggedon 2026 Blankets Tipp City
A major winter storm, known as Winter Storm Fern, dumped about 12 inches of snow on Tipp City, making it one of the heaviest single-storm snowfalls the area has seen in years and causing hazardous travel and local snow emergencies. The storm moved through the Miami Valley from Saturday, January 24, to Sunday, January 25, 2026, with the heaviest snowfall during the day on Sunday and into the night.
Official reports list Tipp City at 12 inches of snow by 7 a.m. Monday, with nearby Troy and Piqua both receiving around 11 inches. Dayton International Airport received 12.4 inches. The system produced a broad swath of 9 to 13 inches across southwest and central Ohio, with Dayton setting a new daily snowfall record on January 25 – 12.4 inches, breaking the old 12.2‑inch mark from 1978.
Central Ohio cities such as Columbus and Cincinnati also saw double‑digit totals, making this a region‑wide, historically significant winter storm rather than a localized event. Miami Valley counties, including Miami and Montgomery, escalated to Level 2 or Level 3 snow emergencies at the height of the storm, reflecting very dangerous or nonessential‑only travel conditions.
Plows and road crews spent much of Sunday and Monday digging out main routes and neighborhoods, and the depth of snow made side streets, parking lots, and sidewalks difficult to clear quickly.
