Tipp girls win Dave Lightle Invite

It was a solid day for the Tippecanoe cross country teams as they hosted the Dave Lightle Invitational at Kyle Park, with both the girls and boys teams finishing strong.

First up for the girls, the Red Devils had a great day scoring 40 points, good enough for the team championship. Tipp had a comfortable win against second-place Piqua, who scored 55 points, and Anderson third with 79.

“What a great evening to race the Dave Lightle Invitational, Tippecanoe High School’s home meet, beginning by honoring our senior runners, Kali Greth, Abby Hogge, and Lucia Ranly, and ending with a victory for the girls,” said girls coach Pam Ranly.

“Our top five runners all finished in the top 20, helping lead the team to the meet victory. New to the high school team this season, Claire Sutton, Meredith Borger, and Kendall Perry continue to run strong and drop time each week.

Nobody was going to catch Michaela Flora from Newton. She won the race with a time of 11:55.0, nearly 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Delaney Stout, a sophomore from Tipp, with a time of 12:22.4.

The Red Devils had two more runners finish in the top ten, as Lucia Ranly placed sixth overall with a time of 12:48.6. Her junior teammate Sydney LaBreck finished eighth in the race, as she ran a time of 12:52.2. She was just one second behind Emma Sallee of Anderson, who placed seventh.

Delia Parrott finished 16th for Tipp as she ran a time of 13:18.5. Kali Greth placed 18th overall with 13:25.6, and Aubrey Davis landed 20th with a time of 13:31.7. That gave Tipp six runners in the top 20, which contributed to them claiming the team championship.

Landing just outside the top 20 was Mary Waibel, who finished 23rd overall with a 13:35.9, and Ela Van Oss ran a time of 14:28.6 to finish 36th.

The Tipp boys finished second overall with 81 points, just nine behind overall champion Sidney Lehman.

“I was not expecting an easy race tonight,” Tipp boys coach Matt Lieber said. “There are so many programs around us that have gotten better. Tonight was a good reminder of just how competitive our area has become.”

“Milton-Union has quite a few really solid runners and always come to compete. Piqua is such a strong program, and I have a lot of respect for what Ryan King is doing there. I was not as familiar with Lehman, but they definitely let us know tonight that they have a very good team as well.”

“We were happy to finish ahead of Milton-Union and Piqua,” Lieber continued. “Tonight was also a good moment for our team to realize that we still have some work to do before the end of the season. I do believe this will make our guys hungry and motivated to finish the season strong.”

Anderson’s Elijah Trickey captured the boys race with a time of 9:53.5, over ten seconds of his runner-up finisher. Everett Muhlenkamp, Tipp’s senior leader, placed third overall with a time of 10:08.2.

Eli Ramos ran to a sixth-place finish for Tipp with a finishing time of 10:13.8. Wrapping up the top 20 for the Red Devils was Seth Shroyer as he ran a time of 11:02.5.

Other top 50 runners for Tipp included Oliver Ranly, who was 25th with a time of 11:11.1. Lukas Heitbrink was 27th (11:16.7), Noah Heisey landed 31st (11:29.6), Jaden Long was 35th (11:36.4), and Henry Tomb was 50th with a finish of 11:55.3.
