Tipp Football makes quick work of Greenville 65-0

It was very apparent early in the game that a running clock would come into play Friday night as the Tippecanoe football team made the trip west on Rt 571 into Greenville to battle the Green Wave in a Miami Valley League contest.

In fact, if the running clock could have taken effect after the first quarter, it would have happened.

Tipp scored five times in the opening period and never looked back, dominating the Green Wave 65-0. This sets up the MVL championship game this Friday when the two remaining unbeaten conference teams square off for the league championship.

“The guys are preparing, and we are stacking great days on great days,” Tipp coach Matt Burgbacher said. “It will pay off. Obviously we have a big one (this) week, and we have to come out and take care of business, and we did that tonight.”

“We got some turnovers and got a score defensively. The boys did what they needed to do.”

While Tipp was scoring at will in the opening quarter, their defense held Greenville to very little yardage.

Tipp opened the scoring on a two-yard run from Colston Artz just two minutes into the game, giving Tipp a quick 7-0 lead.

Just one minute later, Grant Titley picked off a pass and scampered for a touchdown. The Red Devils were off and running 14-0 with 9:17 still remaining in the opening period.

Levi Jones added to the attack on the next Tipp drive starting at the Greenville 14 yard line. Jones scored from five yards out with 6:17 left in the first, and it blossomed out to 21-0.

Another quick three-and-out forced by the Tipp defense gave quarterback Larkin Thomas a chance to get in on the fast start. He threw a 45 yard pass to Titley and the gates were wide open with 4:30 left in the quarter. It became 28-0.

On their next possession, Thomas connected with Kam Hypes on a pass, making the game 35-0, breaking the running clock rules long before halftime arrived.

The lead became 52-0 at the half on scores from Carson Schultz and Bentley Heckman, and a 31 yard field goal from Owen Baileys and the Red Devils capped the scoring in the fourth period. Braedon Collins and Colt Blair both had touchdown runs to cap off the scoring, as Blair’s was 56 yards.

Tipp now heads to Troy and everything is on the line for the MVL title.
