Bulldog athletes thrive as September approaches
As the Bulldog athletes round out their August matchups and head into the peak of the fall sports season, September, they are finding their rhythm and are ready to continue competition.
The girls’ tennis team, unfortunately, fell to Northwestern on Aug. 27 in a close 2-3 match. Grace Ammon and Brooke Metzger won their doubles match, and Grace Leffew also won in third singles. The tennis team also played against Centerville on Aug. 28, where they fell short once again. The end score was 1-4. Peyton Henderson, who plays first singles, was the only one to win a match.
Also on Aug. 28, the girls’ soccer team secured their first win, which was 5-4 against conference opponent Lehman Catholic. This brought their record to 1-2. Goals were scored by Kate Copp, who had a hat trick, Ella Smith, and Campbell Berner. The boys soccer team won 3-0 against Jackson Center in an away game on Sept. 2. Goals were scored by Mason Quesinberry, who had two, and Jacob Fraley. Assists for the game go to Quesinberry, Fraley, and Logan Bohse. But there was more winning on Aug. 28. In yet another win against the Vikings, the girls golf team improved their record 4-1. In their match-up against Miami East on Aug. 28, Addi Case scored a 46 and led the ‘dogs to their 217-234 victory.
And they keep winning. In their match against Covington, they won with an all-time low score of 195. Case was a medalist, shooting a 40. On the boys side of golf, they were defeated by Covington on Sept. 2, 160-172. Austin Hodkin led for the ‘dogs with a career best 38, and he tied for medalist.
The boys bounced back in their competition against Brookville on Sept. 3, where they won 178-179. Hunter Fraley and Keaton Jones medaled for the ‘dogs. Fraley also achieved his first ever Eagle. The football team played another game on home turf against the Graham Falcons on Aug. 29. The boys fell for the second week in a row, 35-7. Bulldog volleyball was matched up against the Miami East Vikings on Sept. 2, where they lost in three sets, 25-11, 25-23, and 25-8.
However, the boys cross country team is at the top of their game. Junior Colin Hinkelman won the Covington Invitational on Aug. 30 with a time of 16:27.1 and the team placed second overall, beating out all their conference opponents.
Not to forget the girls cross country team who is also finding success. The team placed third overall only falling to one conference opponent, Miami East. Sophomore Aubree Bates placed fourth in a time of 20:44.9.
