Tipp defeats Vikings 2-0 in soccer scrimmage

It was their final tuneup of the preseason, and the Tippecanoe girls soccer team came up in a big way, earning a 2-0 shutout of Miamisburg at the Tipp Stadium, as the Red Devils scored both of their goals in the first half of action.

With that win and a previous win against a very experienced Chaminade Julienne team, Tipp is headed into the regular season with some early season confidence. Tipp opened their season last night, hosting Greenville, with results coming next week. “I am feeling good, Miamisburg is a Division One GWOC school, and they were here to play,” Tipp coach Brent Palmer said. “We rose to the occasion really well.”

“At this point of the preseason, it is about finding areas where we can improve and work out the kinks. While it was nice to get the win, we talked a lot before the game about being process-focused today rather than results-focused, and I think we made some strides with that.” Taking the score off the board, Palmer saw some good things from the final scrimmage that he was impressed with as his team prepares for the long season ahead. “We have really been working on our willingness and desire to get forward in the attack, roll the dice that the ball is going to fall to them. But that takes hard work and hard runs to get into the box in dangerous positions, and I was really happy about that.” “Our depth and speed are great, and we have girls buying into their roles, so that has all been great.”

With the preseason now behind them, Tipp turns their attention on Greenville and beyond. Palmer knows what it will take for them to be ready to attack the season strong. “Over the next week (preparing for Greenville), it is important that we spend a lot of time in our teams in terms of training,” he said. “Certainly, no game will go overlooked, every league game is the biggest game of the year for us because it’s the next one.”

Tipp scored both of their goals in the first half, including an own-goal from Miamisburg to open the scoring.

“Kenzie Curry was in a dangerous spot and beat her player down the right and put it in the dangerous area, and it happened to hit their girl and go in,” Palmer said. The second goal came from Julia Burgbacher.
