Clawson planning for special senior season

For the past two seasons, Savannah Clawson has put together successful volleyball seasons that landed her on the all-Ohio team.

When the senior steps onto the floor in August, it will be her final year in the Tippecanoe High School red and white. She will be focused on closing out her volleyball in style with a deep tournament run and hopefully more statewide recognition for the standout. “Having the deepness on our roster will be so huge for us to go back and having the potential to do better,” Clawson said following camp last week. “We lost some key players last year but we have so many people who can step up, so I am really excited how things are going to turn out.” Their loss in the regional semis last season is something these returning young ladies have remembered since that tough game against Ursuline. Clawson said it will fuel them to push forward this season.

“With those last few points, that is something we will remember forever, and the fire we will have in our hearts will push us to succeed even further,” she said. “We are going to be playing better competition, which I think will help us going into the tournament.” Clawson is preparing for her final season with a big summer of volleyball with Elevation Volleyball, which included a trip to the nationals in Dallas last weekend.

“It’s good to get those touches and this is definitely higher level. So it has been good to see those different opponents and stronger volleyball. It pushes me into finding better shots and not just being able to be a good volleyball player, but also be a smart volleyball player.” “For high school, it is so different from club, a different pace and different volleyball. It has been good to read those shots and have those different tempos.” One of the biggest things she is working toward is making a decision where to play her volleyball at the next level, and making that college choice is not an easy decision.

“It is definitely a process and hopefully almost to the end,” she said. “This club season having that different look has definitely helped me with that because it has given me better looks and better things for my game so it has been really helpful.” Heading into her senior season, Clawson is hoping to see some improvements in parts of her game, along with different aspects of her game from last season.

“I am hoping to be a better leader from the ground up,” she said. “I want to be a better leader for the whole program, not just the ones I am on the court with.” “My tempo has gotten faster and my ability to read the block has gotten better. On my defense, I need to stay on my feet and ready to move and have a good connection with my setter, which will really help me.”
