Key August dates as fall sports begin
With the exception of the high school golf teams, which began their season this past Monday, we are only days from the start of high school fall practices for area high schools as the new school year is quickly approaching.
This Friday is the first day for official practice for football, volleyball, soccer, cross country and girls tennis. As our area schools begin their preseason, that means scrimmage dates and all of the preseason workouts will be held over the next few weeks.
Some of the Tipp squads will have scrimmages to prepare for the start of the regular season, with the following dates locked in:
Football- With the annual football alumni golf outing set for Saturday, that would be the unofficial start of the football season. They will host their annual Red/White scrimmage at the stadium next Tuesday at 7 p.m. On August 9, Tipp heads to Beavercreek to scrimmage Alter, Little Miami and the Beavers starting at 10 a.m. Their only home scrimmage is set for August 15 hosting Anna at 7 p.m. before the regular season begins the following Friday at Bellbrook.
Boys Soccer- Coming off another great season, the Red Devils boys soccer team will host three scrimmages this fall for fans to attend and get a look at their new squad. They open things on August 6, hosting Ben Logan at 11 a.m., then head to Columbus Bexley on August 9 for a JV/Varsity scrimmage.
Their final two scrimmages are at home, with Wapakoneta coming to town August 12 at 5/7 p.m., then DeSales makes a visit to the stadium on August 14, also at 5/7 p.m.
Girls Soccer- A young soccer squad will be taking the field also four times this fall for scrimmages. The Red Devils open their scrimmage schedule on August 2, hosting St. Marys at 5:30/7:15 p.m. before hitting the road for a crosstown scrimmage at Bethel, August 6 at 5/7 p.m.
They also head to Chaminade Julienne for a tough scrimmage on August 9 at 5:30/7:15 p.m. They round out their preseason action hosting Miamisburg on August 11, 5:30/7:15 p.m.. The girls and boys open their regular season hosting a doubleheader with Greenville on August 19 at 5:30 and 7:15.
Volleyball- Expecting another special season, the Red Devils will travel to Eaton on August 7 at 5:30 p.m. As tradition holds, Tipp plays all of their scrimmages on the road and that continues this season. Following Eaton, the Red Devils head to Springboro on August 9 at 5:30 p.m. and back down south to Centerville on August 12 at 5:30 p.m. Coach Howard Garcia wraps up a very tough preseason at New Bremen on August 14 at 5:30 p.m.
The fall sports athletic picture day is also set for August 15.
