SugarLand Social: Milton’s new afternoon social scene
BY MIRANDA FOX
West Milton’s newest addition to downtown is the SugarLand Social, formerly known as LaLa Sugarland, located at 38 N Miami St. A soft opening was held on May 15. Owners Megan Bryan and John Lodge of Brookville recently obtained the space. Their goal is to create a safe and inviting space for the families of West Milton to come and enjoy some ice cream and sweet treats. Naming of the business was easy as they wanted to retain the familiar SugarLand and add Social to convey their message to come, hang out, and have fun.
SugarLand Social will offer hand scooped ice cream that is also available in pints to go, with homemade waffle cones or bowls and regular sugar cones. One flavor, Playdough, sounds interesting to me, but you will have to come try it for yourself. Soft serve with a variety of toppings and shakes are also available. They have a selection of sweets, which can be purchased by filling pint containers or pre-packaged candies, including several sugar free options. Big on supporting local, they have Mar-chele Pretzels and Lee’s Old Fashioned Root Beer and Bottled Sodas, both companies are local to Brookville. Eventually, they plan to add acai bowls, smoothies, water-ice, and sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free sweet treat options.
Megan hopes people will come for sweet treats and stay for social time. She states she does not want it to be a place where you just eat your ice cream and leave, but to stay and hang out for a while. They have plenty of outdoor seating and will have Cornhole, large scale Tic Tac Toe, Connect 4, and Tetris. The couple was inspired by local eateries, cafes, and ice cream shops in the surrounding regions to offer a safe place for people to connect.
The inside is a confectionary dream, decorated in pastels with dessert art adorning the walls. A small area for toddlers with a toy ice cream stand will keep the little ones busy. There is seating out front and back, with plans to add additional seating in the interior. Parking is available on the street or behind the building, with entrances in both the front and rear of the building. Hours are 12-9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and are subject to change as they work through the opening process.
