Tipp girls fall short 2-1 at Northmont
Coming off a very emotional non-conference victory at Oakwood just 48 hours earlier, the Tippecanoe girls soccer team faced another challenging match last Monday. They traveled to Englewood to face a Northmont team that proved to be a very tough challenge for the Red Devils.
After both teams played a scoreless half, the T-Bolts used a strong second half of action to defeat Tipp 2-1. The lone Red Devil goal came from Kenzie Curry.
It was two days of emotion where the Red Devils knocked off a previously undefeated Oakwood team before falling short in another emotional game.
“That has been a synopsis of what our season has been so far, a lot of ups and downs, highs and lows. We have to do a better job of managing that and finding some steadiness and consistency throughout, regardless of whether emotions are high or low,” Tipp coach Brent Palmer said. His team outplayed Northmont in the contest, but they just allowed Northmont to score on some easy goals.
“I thought we dominated the game in terms of shots it was 26-4, but we made some mistakes on the defensive end. If you make those kinds of mistakes at those moments, good teams are going to score on you.”
“I feel we gifted them both of their goals, which has been an achilles heel for us this year, giving up some poor goals. It’s one thing if the team works and has a great shot, but the goals we can give up are just kind of ugly and avoidable. It was discouraging for sure.”
Curry scored the lone goal following a scoreless half. Northmont scored first, but Curry tied the game up for Tipp.
“She was coming back from injury, and she won the ball, one touch around the defender to make it 1-1,” Palmer said. “I really thought at that point the momentum was going to carry us through.”
Two days prior, the Red Devils traveled to Dayton to battle the previously unbeaten Oakwood Jills, and used a Curry shot as the lone goal in the game for the 1-0 win for Tipp.
“It was a much needed win and a statement win that we have been missing this season in terms of performance to hang our hat on to build off of,” Palmer said. “From all phases of the game, we were the better team.”
“Both Saturday and Monday, it proves what looks to be true for girls Division Three soccer this year, anyone can beat anyone at any given time, whoever shows up and puts in the work.”
Tipp also defeated Piqua 8-0, as Curry and Isabelle Mahl each scored twice, with goals also coming from Ellie Bentley, Kaliee Gilleland, Maryn Perrault, and Mady Turner.
