Doris Virginia (nee: Francis) English, 88, of Franklin, IN, formerly of Morrow, OH, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Morning Pointe Senior Living. Born on January 6, 1935, to Charles and Ollie (nee: Burkhart) Francis in Draper, NC, Doris graduated from Butler High School in Vandalia, OH in 1953 and from the Dayton Secretarial School in Dayton, OH in 1955. She was a homemaker, secretary, and co-owner of a small business. She retired from Ryerson Steel Company where she worked in accounts receivable. Doris was a lifelong Baptist and she played the baritone saxophone in a community band as well as in her church orchestra for years. She enjoyed Bible study, home improvement projects, mixed media artwork, and spending time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas English, her sister, Lorene Edwards, and one daughter-in-law, Donna English.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia (John) Dozier, Michael English, Eric (Carol) English, grandchildren, Kimberley Perez, Bobbie (Nick) Harmeling, Evan English, great-grandchildren, Izabella Harmeling, Autumn Harmeling, and Emma Harmeling and many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home.


James Kay Borton, age 82 of Tipp City passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Grandview Hospital, Dayton. He was born on December 6, 1941 in Portland, Indiana the son of Harvey Dale & Dorothy Maxine (Shumaker) Borton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from July 24, 1959 to December 5, 1962 and was in the Amphibious Construction Battalion. He was a Union Carpenter for over 30 years. He was a member of the Tipp City IOOF Lodge and the Tipp City American Legion. He was a life member of the NRA, NMLRA and the ASSRA. He was the Chief Range Officer for the NMLRA and the Schuetzenmeister for the ASSRA. He loved hunting and being outdoors and anything related to guns.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cindy Lou (Russell) Borton; children Timothy (Joan) Borton, Kim Borton, Josh (Jean) Borton, and Joe (Catherine) Borton; grandchildren Tyrone, Katie, Falcon, Hailey, Brooke and John; Great grandchildren Kayla, Rickey, Eli and Oaklee; brothers Greg Slates, Tom Pitts and Dennis Pitts and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Kyle Borton and his sisters Linda and Fairie. He loved his family more than anything else, and will be missed by all who knew him.

A gathering of family and friends was held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service was held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial followed in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Thomas Howard Sims, 71, Ranson, WV, formerly of Tipp City, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Jefferson Medical Center, Ranson, WV.

Tom was born May 15, 1952 in Gallipolis, Ohio, and was the son of the late Charles Robert Sims and Phillis Mae Collins Sims. Tom was a 1970 graduate from Tippecanoe High School and a retired Conductor with the CSX Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Mae Rickard Sims; daughters, Leslie Sims (Mike), of Shepherdstown, WV, Carrie Sims (Jason), of Martinsburg, WV, son, Jeff Sims (Rosy) and wife Rosey, of Inwood, WV; grandchildren, Trenten, Tyler, Drake, Nayeli, Navin, Terrianne, Kayla; sister, Diane Sims Thornbury, of Tipp City, stepchildren, Tabitha, Megan, Rob.

Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Ranson, WV.

Richardson, Thomas “Tom” age 75 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away Monday, December 18, 2023. Tom was born on November 20, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Joe B. and Dorothy {Rensch} Richardson. He is preceded in death by his parents, husband Thomas “Tommy” Might, and brother-in-law Bob Bocko. He is survived by his daughter Julie (Jim) Medley of Columbus, Ohio, sister Nancy Bocko of Vandalia, Ohio, niece Melissa Sass and family of Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren Leigha (Josh) Herrmann of Englewood, Ohio, Hailey (Patrick) McCauley of Englewood, Ohio, Libby (Derek Lee) Massengale of Huber Heights, Ohio and five great grandchildren.

Tom retired after 30 years of service with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. He loved and owned many award winning classic cars. Tom spent most every Friday evening at the Stage Door with his wonderful lifelong core group of friends in the LGBTQA community. He loved spending time with his neighbor and friend, Art. Tom was highly interested in politics and frequently volunteered at the polls.

A private Celebration of Life for friends and family to be held at Harrison’s Restaurant, Tipp City. Inurnment at Dayton Memorial Park.
