Tipp City Music Boosters announce concession changes
New menu features all-beef hot dogs and the "Devil's Pitchfork"
The Tipp City Music Boosters have announced several changes to their concession stand sales, including the introduction of all-beef hot dogs and the return of a crowd-favorite, the Devil’s Pitchfork.
Introduced last fall, the Devil’s Pitchfork is a Hot Mett topped with grilled green peppers and onions. Made fresh to order, the Devil’s Pitchfork was previously available only at Varsity and Peewee Football games. It will now also be served during Boys Soccer and Middle School Football games.
“You’ve got to have it with the mustard,” Concessions Manager Matt Hoskins said. “That’s the key to the whole thing.”
“It’s become a fan favorite to the point where we’re serving it at pretty much every event,” he said. “They’re actually getting known by parents outside our district. I had a guy come up during the Girls Soccer game, asking.”
The Devil’s Pitchfork was invented by Hoskins and his grill runner, after being inspired by a disappointing meal during an invitational at another local district.
“I went to an invitational, and I ordered what I thought was going to be a spicy sausage or hot dog, and it turned out not to be,” Hoskins said.
Soon after, he and his grill runner were discussing new menu items, and invented the Devil’s Pitchfork.
“We came together and came up with the Devil’s Pitchfork,” Hoskins said. “I tried it the following track season and it went over very, very well, so last year we released it during Varsity Football, and it became such a hit with the fans that we decided to carry it.”
In addition to the Devil’s Pitchfork, the Music Boosters have also added Nathan’s all-beef hotdogs to their concession offerings.
“The Nathan’s hotdogs are going over very, very well,” Hoskins said. “We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them.”
Other changes include price adjustments and the return of quarter-pricing, as well as lower pricing for waters. The changes were announced recently through a Facebook posting.
“There’s been a few price changes,” Hoskins said. “Some went down, and some went up, because of the economy.”
The Tipp City Music Boosters handle concessions for all of the games at the football field, Hoskins said, and all proceeds go to benefit Tipp City Schools music programs.
“It is all done by the Music Boosters,” he said. “All of the proceeds go back to supporting all of the musical programs at the high school.”
Hoskins said he encourages all band and choir parents to volunteer to help with concession stand sales, and he also encourages others to help the Music Boosters by visiting the upcoming 50th Invitational.
“I am a choir parent, and color guard parent,” he said. “One of the things I like to encourage is coming to our invitational. It’s a big thing for us; it’s a huge fundraiser.”
“It’s a very large income boost for us every year,” Hoskins said. “This year we’ll be hosting 15 teams, and we’ll be looking for support from everybody.”
“We thank the community for all their support,” he said. “We couldn’t have the programs we have here without the community stepping up to help. We’re thankful for all the volunteer parents we get every season.”
