Record falls as volleyball squad has big week
Tippecanoe senior Faith Siefring was honored last week in the team's game against Eaton for breaking the school record for career digs, as she set the new record in the team's win against Troy. The Red Devils defeated Eaton 19-25, 25-6, 25-17, 25-21 to remain unbeaten on the young season.
“We had a very slow start, committing 14 errors in the first set,” Tipp coach Howard Garcia said. “The team made some changes and responded with improved ball control while committing only three errors and having a great day on the service line with eight aces.”
Tipp led 17-10 in the third set but allowed Eaton to score seven straight points with five hitting errors. Tipp broke serve and reeled off eight straight points for the win.
Abbi Mader led Tipp with 20 kills, two blocks and three aces along with eight digs. Liv Hiser added 15 kills and three blocks while Lexi Luginbuhl powered down five kills with four service aces.
Siefring added 20 digs for Tipp, with Ava Jones dishing out 37 assists.
Tipp returned to action with a straight set 25-11, 25-9, 25-10 victory over Xenia as they jumped out quick and never looked back.
“We played great out of the gate,” Garcia said. “Our serve was accurate and broke their offense into most of the night being out of system. It was a great night in which the entire team had a chance to make contributions.”
It was another big night for Mader with 10 kills, two blocks, five digs and four aces. Luginbuhl added nine kills, two blocks and five aces, with Hiser recording seven kills and three aces.
Siefring had ten digs, Jones added seven, and Elynn Downing had four. Jones passed out 20 assists to lead the Tipp charge.
*Tipp closed out the week with an easy 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 victory over West Carrollton to improve to 6-0 on the season.
The Red Devils were led by Mader with a big game at the net with 15 kills, with Hiser adding 11 kills and six aces. Siefring contributed ten digs while sophomore Claire Bailey had a big game with 29 assists, filling in for the regular setter Ava Jones, who is out with an injury.
“It was a good match for everyone to make contributions, and with Ava out for an unknown period of time, our other setter will have to step it up and be able to deliver,” Garcia said. “It’s an opportunity to be able to do things.”
“We have serve-received very well, and we have served very well. We have to be better on location. They scored 23 points in three games, and only one legit point on one kill in the third set. That tells you a lot of their points came out of our errors and against better teams, we cannot sustain that.”
