Bethel golf gets another big Win

The Bethel boys golf team is on fire this season, as they get another win against Troy Christian. On August 26, 2026, Bethel beat Troy Christian 159-172. The nine holes were played on Bethel's home course, Sugar Isle. The boys shot a great match, with top scores from Logan Norris (34), Braden Shoup and Lucas Vest (both 41), and Braylen Stegner (43). This was an amazing win for Bethel, especially considering it was a conference match. The boys can slowly work their way toward a conference championship. Currently, Bethel is 4-2 in the Three Rivers Conference (TRC), with Miami East in the lead with a 4-1 record.

Senior Logan Norris is leading the way for Bethel on the course. He is not only an amazing golfer but is also one of the soccer team captains. Norris is entering his last year at Bethel with the mindset that he will “Leave Bethel sports better than he found it.” Norris shows great sportsmanship and leadership on the course, and highlights that many of the boys on the team are “getting more consistent and playing way smarter this year.” Consistency is key in golf, so the noticeable ability of boys to shoot regular scores shows how the team is improving and developing their skill level. The boys' motivation to win is something that has shown results for the team. Winning is a great feeling, but Norris says that what really motivates him is the feeling of losing. He says that “losing is exciting because there is always going to be someone better than you.” This mentality not only helps him grow into a better player but also helps the team have a goal to look forward to. 

Braylen Stegner, also a senior, agreed that there is motivation in losing, but his biggest motivation is simply a love for the sport. He compared golf to an addiction and says that he just gets “the bug to get better and better because at the end of the day, this is a sport he can play for his whole life.” Whatever the boys' motivation, they continue to grow and strive to win games as a team rather than individually. Stegner also addresses the newfound consistency the team has achieved. He says that the team is continuing to “Find out who plays best with who” and shares that the golf team is pretty much a group of best friends.” The compatibility of this team is admirable, as they continue to strengthen one another.

Stegner has been helping lead the team to wins for a few years, with one of the most memorable times being when he got to substitute into a varsity match against Lehman Catholic and shot a 43, helping keep Bethel’s winning streak.

It is awesome to watch this team continue to motivate one another and stay consistent throughout the year. The boys continue to grow, becoming a thriving program for Bethel. We wish them the best and hope this winning streak continues!
