BREAKING - Tipp may sell land to Meijer for potential Grocery

Potential agreement would give Meijer exclusive rights to buy roughly 17 acres of the 60-acre city-owned site formerly known as the Long Property

BREAKING - According to a City Council agenda released Monday night, the Tipp City Council will soon consider selling land to Meijer for a potential grocery on the Long Property.

A proposed real estate purchase option agreement will be discussed at the City Council meeting to be held Monday, Aug. 17, that would give Meijer exclusive rights to buy roughly 17 acres of a 60-acre city-owned site near the intersection of County Road 25A and state Route 571 for a potential new store.

The parcel is part of a larger property the city acquired to spur commercial development in the Uptown area. City officials, development partner Woodard Development, and Meijer have held extensive talks about the site, which the city identified as a suitable location for a grocery store.

While Meijer has no retail stores in Tipp City, the company already operates a distribution center and dairy facility at 4200 S. County Road 25A in nearby Monroe Township and is one of Tipp City’s largest employers.

The option agreement is not a final development commitment. It would simply allow Meijer time to evaluate the property and complete the necessary site, infrastructure, environmental, engineering, market, and other reviews for a general merchandise and grocery store.
