Wawa opens new Tipp City location
Members of the Tipp City Police and Fire Departments helped welcome Wawa to Tipp City on Thursday, July 9, competing in a charity hoagie-building contest during a special ceremony celebrating the store’s official grand opening.
“At Wawa, we hold a special place in our hearts for the first responders in our communities, and those who are serving our communities with important services,” Wawa Tipp City General Manager Josh Peters said. “This contest gives us a way to recognize our local heroes, donate to local causes, and have fun all at the same time.”
“The goal of the contest is to build as many hoagies as possible within two minutes,” he said. “The winning team will earn the all-important bragging rights, and the trophy. Wawa will donate $1,000 to each team’s charity of choice, so everyone wins.”
Members of the Tipp City Police Department won the Hoagies-for-Heroes contest, with a final score of 27 hoagies in two minutes.
State Representative Steve Huffman also spoke during the grand-opening ceremony, which featured a ribbon-cutting, free giveaways, and an appearance from Wally Goose, the Wawa mascot.
“I want to welcome Wawa to Tipp City, my hometown now for 30-some years,” Huffman said.
“I look at this as economic development,” he said. “Overall, Wawa plans to spend about a half-billion dollars in the state of Ohio and hire almost 2,500 people in the next couple of years.”
“Every new store that we build is an investment in the community we serve,” Wawa area manager Robert Taubenslag said. “At this store, we invested $7.5 million through 140 contractors and local partners.”
“Community is always at the heart of everything that we do,” he said.
Located near the intersection of I-75 and South County Road 25A at 65 W. Kessler-Cowlesville Rd., the new Tipp City location features a wide selection of specialty coffees and fountain beverages, as well as Wawa’s made-to-order hoagies and sandwiches.
“We’re known for our coffee,” Peters said. “We also have our deli, where you can get hoagie sandwiches; that’s something we’re really known for.”
Wawa opened nine new stores in Ohio in 2025, Taubenslag said, and the Tipp City store is Wawa’s fifth Ohio location to open in 2026. The company plans to open five more new Ohio stores in 2026, including locations in West Chester and Miamisburg.
Plans for the new Tipp City location have been in the works for more than one year, he said.
“We entered the Ohio market in April of 2025,” Taubenslag said. “We started looking at sites over a year before that. This site, in particular, has been in the works for over a year.”
“I think it’s a great site,” he said. “Tipp City is an amazing town; it’s a great community, and I think our values match the values of Tipp City.”
“The General Manager lives in Tipp City,” Taubenslag said. “He was hired for this store.”
The Tipp City store will employ approximately 40-50 people, Peters said, and will keep hiring after the grand opening.
“We are still hiring, and we’ll continue to hire after we open,” Peters said.
So far, responses to the new store have all been positive, Peters said.
“The response from the community has been great,” he said. “We’ve got a brand-new beautiful store; we’re excited to serve Tipp City.”
