Vintage Tipp
The Tippecanoe Historical Society article this week is about Thomas Hartley. He served in Company D of the 94th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War from August 22, 1862, to June 5, 1865. He attained the rank of Sergeant under Captain John W. Ford. They took part in many campaigns, including Sherman's March to the Sea. He had several businesses in Tippecanoe, belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a very active member of the Tippecanoe Lodge #174 of the Accepted and Free Masons of Ohio.
He and his wife, Margaret, bought the house at 118 N. 4th St on February 8, 1877. He was my great, great-grandfather. The house stayed in our family until shortly after the death of my grandmother, Margaret Eickmeyer Fox Dailey, in 1972. It was eventually sold to Paul Lee, who had it completely renovated.
