Six Red Devils highlight MVL baseball team

Although a Miami Valley League championship eluded the Tippecanoe baseball team this past season, several members of the Red Devils squad were honored by the coaches of the conference, as the MVL all-league team was released last week.

The district championship squad from Tipp placed three players on the talented first team, which consists of 14 players from five teams in the conference. Troy led the way with five players with Butler close behind with four.

Senior Cayden McKinney, headed to Northern Kentucky to play baseball next season, highlights the top group from Tippecanoe. McKinney was fourth in the conference in ERA, only allowing 1.22 runs per nine innings. He also recorded 60 strikeouts on the mound as one of their starting pitchers this season. For the season, he was 5-2.

Ethan Harney was also named to the first-team MVL, as the Tipp junior had a strong season and was a huge contributor to their success this season. He was second in the league with five home runs and top five with 32 runs batted in on the season.

The final Tipp player to be honored on the first-team was Noah Fox, a sophomore who put together a great season. Fox ended the season batting .407, sharing a team high 37 hits, and added 30 runs scored on the year.

The remainder of the first-team players include Logan Akers, Colton Akins, Aiden Gorman, Brady O’Leary and Jake Reinhardt, all from Troy; Koby Dues, Jack Egbert, Tate Richardson and Jackson Schilling, from Butler; Ben Hayashi from Xenia; and Evan Morgan from Stebbins.

Tipp also landed two players on the second-team, led by senior Carson Jackson and fellow classmate Ethan Davis.

Jackson was actually second in the conference with nine wins on the mound and finished the season 9-2 overall with 44 strikeouts and a 2.18 ERA. He also had 35 hits at the plate while adding 10 doubles and a team high 32 runs batted in, tied with Harney.

Davis was perfect on the season on the mound with a 5-0 record and 31 strikeouts.

Those two were joined on second-team by Lukah Branam and Andon Laughman from Piqua; Paxton Dwenger and Aiden White from Butler; Broke Hoke from Troy; Chilly Jesenski from Greenville; Matthew Kingsolver, Cameron Salyers and Drew Smith from Xenia; Clayton Phillips from Fairborn; Jordan Shipe from Sidney and Kade Swiger from Sidney.

Brady Lisky, who handled the catching duties for Tipp, was selected to the honorable mention team. He tied for the team lead with 37 hits and 28 RBIs.
