Zion Lutheran Church celebrates 200th anniversary

Community invited to join in their celebration

It is with great gratitude and joy that Zion Lutheran Church of Tipp City announces it is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. Zion was established in 1826, 16 years prior to the establishment of Tippecanoe City, by pioneer settlers from all the old states of the Union. Families of the German Reformed and Lutheran faiths decided to construct a building to be used as a meeting house and school, with a burial ground nearby, and the church that later became known as Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church was formed. In honor of this historic blessing of 200 years of faith and worship, Zion has adopted the theme of being a congregation “Rooted in Christ. Growing in Faith.” Zion would like to welcome nearby communities to join them in celebration with special events. On Sunday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m., there will be a rededication service of the former English Lutheran Cemetery on Hyatt Street to honor Zion’s founding members. On Saturday, June 27th, a community ice cream social will be held on Zion’s property at 14 W. Walnut Street from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., and will include an ice cream truck, bounce house, games, crafts, music, and a balloon artist. At 5:00 p.m. there will be a worship service. Zion Lutheran Church welcomes all to come and worship with them any Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. or Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. More information may be found at ziontippcity.org.
