MVVM, VVA to host used/vintage book sale
TROY- Used and vintage books, including hardbacks, paperbacks, coffee table books, children’s books, military history and Ohio history books, cookbooks, and more will be available at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, during a special book sale hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), Ohio Chapter 97.
All proceeds from the book sale will benefit college and trade school scholarships, and other veterans’ causes.
“Over the past several months, we have solicited used books on all sorts of various subjects from anywhere and everywhere,” Scott Kuhnen of VVA Chapter 97 said. “We estimate that we now have 4,000-5,000 books.”
The book sale will be held at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, located at 2245 S. County Road 25-A, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
The sale is hosted by VVA Chapter 97, and the funds raised will be used to support local projects.
“Vietnam Veterans of America, Ohio Chapter 97, has been awarding college and trade school scholarships for decades,” Kuhnen said. “In order to raise the funds each year, our traditional method has been raffle ticket sales. However, starting in 2026, we added a new fundraiser to our list of projects, a Used/Vintage Book Sale.”
Established more than 20 years ago, VVA Chapter 97 is located on Rosebury Drive in Huber Heights, behind Emmanuel Church of the Brethren. More information can be found online through the chapter’s Facebook page.

The idea to co-host the book sale originally started with a previous Miami Valley Veterans Museum event, Kuhnen said.
“The Miami Valley Veterans Museum has numerous members of VVA, including curator, John Bankowitz,” Kuhnen said. “We actually partnered with the Miami Valley Veterans Museum at their Barn Sale last year by laying out several tables of books with "military" themes.”
