Milton-Union eliminates lead driver position

In a unanimous vote, Milton-Union Board of Education voted to eliminate the position of lead driver effective June 30 during its April 20 meeting. This position was the only one eliminated as part of a Reduction in Force (RIF).

Prior to the vote, a statement was read on behalf of lead driver Jodell Garrison. Garrison, an employee of nearly 30 years, was unavailable to attend the meeting due to a previously scheduled vacation. Her daughter spoke on her behalf, requesting that the board consider a short-term extension to her contract of just over five months. This extension would not only allow her to obtain better benefits as a retiree, but it would also allow her to provide whoever replaces her with training to effectively fulfill the duties she is currently performing.

Despite Garrison’s request, the measure to eliminate her position passed with no discussion.

In other business, a number of personnel matters were approved. The athletic director, director of technology, high school principal, and middle school principal were all granted contract extensions of two years each. Elementary principal Anne Blankenship’s resignation was also approved.

The board accepted the resignation of Jeff Sheridan from the library’s board of trustees, and donations from Hoffman Global Methodist Church for both the Angel Fund and the FFA were approved.

A recommendation granting diplomas to all Milton-Union students meeting both state and district graduation requirements was approved, as was a request for the FFA to attend a camp in Carrollton, OH, for mid-June.

The meeting ended with the board adjourning into executive session.
