Meet the Candidates Night a Success

On Thursday, April 9, members of the community attended a “Meet the Candidates Night,” sponsored by the Miami County Democratic Party. Six candidates and two campaign representatives greeted attendees. On their tables, participants could find colorful handouts describing the candidates’ background and goals to serve and lead once elected. The meeting hall, located at 1230 South Market Street, was full of conversation and enthusiasm. Community members who could not attend are encouraged to learn about these candidates at www.miamicountyohdems.com. before the May 5 primary election.

Candidates participating included the campaign manager for Sherod Brown, who is seeking to retake his Senate seat of eight years. The campaign manager of John Kulewicz also attended, promoting his experience as a lifelong attorney winning many anti-corruption cases at state and national levels. Adam Miller attended as well. Adam is running for the 15th US House District after already serving in the Statehouse, in the US military as a Colonel, and in a veterans legal practice. Don Leonard attended, running for the 15th US House District after serving in the Peace Corp and teaching as a Professor at Ohio State University in Government and City/Regional Planning. Candidate Madaris Grant was present and is running for US House District 8. His conversations provided listeners with his background as a hall-of-fame athlete (BGSU) and a businessman for disadvantaged youth, and with his vision for fairer school funding, taxation, and costs of living. Katie Koehler Wagner attended as a candidate running for the Ohio Statehouse as a Representative for District 80. She comes as a former teacher and community builder, addressing the many concerns presented at the Resist and Persist rallies, which she founded in Miami County. Jeffrey Harris was present and is running for Ohio Statehouse Senate District 5. He is a business owner and leader in the NAACP, campaigning on his solutions for education, healthcare, property taxes, and job development in our state. William Whitten attended to share his background in leadership on the Ironworkers Executive Committee and as Superintendent and General Foreman of major steel construction projects. His platform is to strengthen infrastructure, ensure responsible budgeting, support local jobs and businesses, and protect our area’s agriculture as a candidate for the Miami County Commissioners.
