Park District Ranger Division Becomes First in Ohio to Earn State Accreditation

The Miami County Park District Ranger Division has made history as the first park district law enforcement agency in the state of Ohio to receive accreditation through the Ohio Collaborative Community Police Advisory Board.

The honor was presented on April 15, 2026, at the Pathway to Success Awards Ceremony held at the Quest Conference Center. Dan Weaver, Operations Director and Ranger, along with Olivia Norris, Operations Administrative Assistant, accepted the accreditation on behalf of the Park District.

In addition to the agency’s recognition, Weaver was individually honored with the 2026 Mentorship Award through the Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. The award recognizes an agency employee for dedicated, selfless service and for fostering a spirit of generosity and cooperation in support of others in the law enforcement community as they pursue professional improvement and accreditation.

“I’m honored, but this recognition really reflects a team effort and the many people who have supported me along the way,” Weaver said. “Any help I’ve been able to offer others is a direct result of the guidance and encouragement I’ve received over the years. I’m grateful to Director Burkhammer and the Ohio Collaborative Community Police Advisory Board for making this opportunity possible.”

The accreditation process evaluates agencies on policies, procedures, training, and best practices aligned with statewide standards. Earning this distinction signifies that the Ranger Division meets rigorous benchmarks in law enforcement operations, accountability and community engagement.

The Ranger Division serves as the Park District’s law enforcement and public safety arm, responsible for protecting natural resources, assisting visitors, enforcing park regulations and providing emergency response services across Miami County’s parks and preserves.

Executive Director J. Scott Myers emphasized the broader impact of the achievement. “This is a proud moment for our entire organization and the residents we serve,” said Myers. “Being the first park district in Ohio to earn this accreditation demonstrates leadership, innovation and a deep commitment to safety. It reinforces our promise to provide not only exceptional natural spaces, but also a secure and welcoming environment where visitors can explore with confidence.”
