Boston Stoker Coffee Co. plans soft opening
Remodeling work is wrapping-up at the new Tipp City Boston Stoker location, and a soft opening is planned as soon as final inspections can be completed.
“We should have the doors open within the next one or two weeks,” Boston Stoker Coffee Co. President Henry Dean said. “We’re waiting on Miami County and also building inspections.”
“We’ll probably do a soft opening for a couple of weeks, and then schedule a grand opening,” he said.
Located in the former Park National Bank building on West Main Street, the new Boston Stoker Coffee Co. will feature a full coffee and beverage menu, as well as baked goods, breakfast and lunch items, and a walk-in cigar humidor. The new location also features an approximately 1,450-square foot dining area, a drive through window, and a large outdoor patio area.
“We’ve got a good amount of patio space, so people can enjoy their tobacco outside and sit on the patio,” Dean said.
The building has been fully remodeled, with a new design featuring re-purposed furniture and items from the first Boston Stoker coffee shop in Englewood.
“A lot of it looks new in here, but we actually refurbished a lot of it,” Dean said. “We like to save a lot of old materials and repurpose them.”
“I personally re-did a lot of the furniture, so some of it’s old Stoker furniture from 20 or 30 years ago that’s been all refurbished,” he said. “The face of the bar; this came out of Columbus, and one of our old coffee bars that we brought back to life.”
“We’re trying to find a local artist to possibly feature on this back wall,” Dean said. “We don’t have anybody lined up just yet.”
The Tipp City location will include a staff of approximately 14 employees, Dean said, and a link for submitting applications can be found online at www.bostonstoker.com.
The location will also feature several new items, including new food items and gift items highlighting several of the countries that Boston Stoker imports coffee beans from.
“One new product that we’re adding here is a cold brew slushy,” Dean said. “We’re offering two flavors of cold brew slushy; one is our classic, and the other is a flavor called Original Grog.”
The new location will also carry retail packages of Boston Stoker coffee, which are imported directly from farmers and processed at the company’s roastery in Vandalia.
“We do roast our own beans,” Dean said. “We also source our own beans directly from farmers.”
“We’ve got farms that we buy from in Central and South America, and Kenya,” he said. “We buy our own coffee directly from the farms.”
Planning and construction for the new Tipp City location has been underway since November, Dean said. He credits the building’s owner, Jaydee Blair, for first coming up with the idea to open a Boston Stoker Coffee Co. in Tipp City.
“He bought the building, and then he immediately wanted a coffee house in here,” Dean said. “We were the first ones he reached out to.”
“Road Dog, next door, they sell our coffee,” he said. “Jaydee goes in there every day to get his coffee every morning. That’s where he kind of fell in love with our coffee, so he reached out to us, wanting to get us in here.”
Tipp City will be the company’s seventh location, Dean said, including four shops in the Miami Valley and three others in the Columbus area. The first Boston Stoker location opened on North Main Street in Englewood in 1973.
“Really, it was just the right timing,” Dean said. “We’ve always liked the community in Tipp City, so we felt it was just the right timing.”
“This will be our seventh location for the company,” he said. “We do have one more that’s in the works in Columbus. We have been looking to expand, so we’re still looking for other locations.”
